Predecessor’s free-to-play open beta began on March 28, 2024, across Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation and Xbox. It was a wider-access development phase—not the game’s full launch. Omeda Studios released version 1.0 and ended Early Access on August 20, 2024.
When did Predecessor’s open beta start?
Omeda Studios announced the open beta on March 7, 2024, and set its start for March 28. The beta also marked Predecessor’s Xbox launch. The announcement described a broader testing and development phase, rather than a final release. Omeda’s March 2024 announcement said that a larger player base across more regions would help the studio observe performance, make data-focused changes and learn what the game needed as development continued.
“This is a critical phase for our development: we’re going free to play for Open Beta because we need as many players as possible playing the game.”
Was Predecessor free to play, and where could players access the beta?
Yes. Omeda announced that the open beta would be free to play on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation and Xbox. Those are the platforms named in the March 2024 announcement; individual storefront requirements and platform-specific availability may differ.

Is Predecessor still in beta?
The open beta was a past milestone. On July 31, 2024, Omeda announced that Predecessor would leave Early Access with its version 1.0 release on August 20, 2024. Steam also lists August 20, 2024 as the game’s release date. The distinction matters: the March open beta expanded access while development continued, while version 1.0 marked the announced full launch out of Early Access. Omeda’s full-launch announcement gives the 1.0 date.
Where can you play Predecessor now?
As of October 8, 2026, Omeda’s official site listed Steam, PlayStation, Epic Games Store and Xbox, and displayed the V1.17 Bloodtide update dated September 22, 2026. Steam describes the game as free to play, with online PvP, online co-op, cross-platform multiplayer and in-app purchases. These listings establish current storefront access as of that date; check the relevant store for availability and requirements in your region.

Omeda’s site describes controller play and cross-play between console and PC. For friends joining from different platforms, verify the current platform-specific cross-play details before arranging a match.
