Try the board-specific starting point before opening the answer key.
Easy
Begin with the middle-center column marked for a sum of 10. Only two combinations satisfy that region by itself; EnergyPips reports that the squares resolve to 4 and 6. The tray includes doubles 5-5 and 0-0.
Medium
Start at the middle-center square marked “< 1”: it must contain 0. The board has no doubles. EnergyPips reports 38 pips in the tray and a sum-2 region containing 1 and 1.

Hard
The top-center square marked “= 2” must contain 2. The tray includes six doubles: 3-3, 2-2, 0-0, 6-6, 1-1, and 5-5.
How Pips clues work
Pips asks you to place the supplied dominoes across colored regions so that every square is filled and each region’s condition is met. An equals sign requires matching pip values within that region; a not-equal sign requires different values. The “<” and “>” symbols set a threshold, a number specifies an exact value or total, and an unmarked region has no additional value constraint. For a rules overview, see Forbes’ March 15 Pips guide.
March 15 board sizes and constraints
EnergyPips reports the following board details for the three difficulty levels:
| Difficulty | Squares | Dominoes | Useful first move | Reported constraint |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Medium | 14 | 7 | Fill the “< 1” single square with 0. | No doubles; 2 sum regions |
| Hard | 30 | 15 | Fill the “= 2” single square with 2. | 6 doubles and 7 unrestricted regions; 18 regions total |
