After 12 months, it ranked second in Circana’s US tracker, behind Game Boy Advance.
What US sales records did Switch 2 set at launch?
Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025. Circana figures attributed to analyst Mat Piscatella put US sales above 1.1 million units in the week ending June 7, according to Nintendo Life. That total excluded purchases from My Nintendo Store; Circana said it surpassed the previous launch-week record held by PlayStation 4.

Circana’s June 2025 market highlights called Switch 2 the fastest-selling video game hardware device in US history at debut. It sold 1.6 million units in the US that month, the highest launch-month hardware unit sales in US history, according to Nintendo Life, reporting Piscatella’s figures.
How does the first-year comparison change the answer?
The launch record does not mean Switch 2 remained the fastest-selling system throughout its first year. Circana’s US tracker, which began in 1995, put Switch 2 at 5.9 million units after 12 months. That made it the second-fastest-selling system over that period in the tracker, behind Game Boy Advance at 6.5 million units, according to Nintendo Life.

So the precise answer depends on the measurement window: Switch 2 set the US launch-week and launch-month records reported by Circana, but Game Boy Advance had the stronger first-year total in the tracker’s comparison.
Why are Nintendo’s global figures different?
Nintendo reported that worldwide consumer sell-through exceeded 3.5 million Switch 2 units in the console’s first four days. Nintendo defines sell-through as units sold to individual consumers by retailers and through its direct-sales websites; this is a global figure, not a US tracker total. The announcement was published by Nintendo of Canada on June 10, 2025.

Separately, Nintendo’s worldwide hardware tally was 23.68 million units as of June 30, 2026, according to its hardware and software sales data. That is a global life-to-date company-reported total. It cannot be directly compared with Circana’s US launch-period or first-year rankings, which use a different geography, time window, and source.

Mario Kart World accompanied the console’s launch, including in hardware bundles. Nintendo reported 5.63 million copies worldwide by June 30, 2025, counting units included in hardware bundles, in its June 2025 sales materials. Circana launch-week figures reported by Nintendo Life said 79% of US buyers acquired the game, either physically or through the bundle. That measure includes bundled copies, so it should not be read as a share of buyers who separately purchased a standalone copy.
