If you mean Ghost of Tsushima, armor and outfits are found through story quests, Mythic Tales, side quests, and exploration. Each armor set supports a different play style, while masks, helmets, and headbands are cosmetic. The available guide details below were published in 2020, so treat locations and effects as edition-specific until verified in your version of the game.

How to choose an armor set

Choose armor for its reported gameplay benefits rather than its appearance: survival, melee or stagger damage, stealth, archery, resolve, Ghost weapons, or exploration. The 2020 location guide describes benefits but does not provide a current, cross-edition stat comparison. Its companion customization guide also distinguishes gameplay-affecting armor from mostly cosmetic items such as masks, hats, and headbands: armor and attire guide and customization guide.

Armor and outfit locations

The routes and effects in this table are those reported by GosuNoob’s guide, updated July 17, 2020. Quest names and availability may differ by edition or game updates; use the guide as a route reference rather than a guarantee of current details.

Set Reported location or unlock Reported gameplay benefit
Traveler’s Attire Meet a merchant on the way to Hiyashi Springs while seeking information at the inn. Supports artifact tracking with the Guiding Wind, clears more fog of war while traveling, and signals when Jin is near an artifact.
Samurai Clan Armor Talk to the armorer at the Golden Temple during “The Tale of Lady Masako.” Reduces damage taken, increases health, and grants more resolve when hit.
Ronin Attire Reward for completing the main quest “Blood in the Grass.” Reduces enemy detection speed, increases melee damage, and gives enemies longer to detect Jin after he leaves pampas grass while crouched.
Tadayori’s Armor Complete the Mythic Tale “The Legend of Tadayori.” Improves nocking and reload speed, extends concentration time, and restores some concentration on headshots.
Sakai Clan Armor Obtained during “Ghosts from the Past.” Increases melee damage and health, increases the standoff streak, and can terrify nearby enemies after winning a standoff.
Ghost Armor At the start of “From the Darkness.” Reduces enemy detection speed and the kills needed to enter Ghost stance; kills can terrify nearby enemies.
Mongol Commander’s Armor Complete the side quest “Fit for the Khan,” then talk with the apprentice in Jogaku. Increases health, reduces incoming damage, and slows Mongol detection outside combat.
Kensei Armor Complete the Mythic Tale “The Six Blades of Kojiro.” Increases resolve gain and strengthens Ghost weapons; enemies struck by those weapons deal less damage and take more.
Gosaku’s Armor Complete the Mythic Tale “The Unbreakable Gosaku.” Increases health and stagger damage, and restores health when you kill staggered enemies.
Fundoshi Visit all 18 hot springs, according to the 2020 guide. This is undergarment attire, not armor; it enables silent running and sprinting.

Pick a set by play style

  • For survival: Samurai Clan Armor, Mongol Commander’s Armor, and Gosaku’s Armor are described with health benefits; Samurai Clan and Mongol Commander’s also reduce damage taken.
  • For close combat: Ronin Attire and Sakai Clan Armor emphasize melee damage, while Gosaku’s Armor emphasizes stagger damage.
  • For stealth: Ronin Attire, Ghost Armor, and Mongol Commander’s Armor are described as slowing enemy detection in different situations.
  • For archery: Tadayori’s Armor supports bow handling and concentration.
  • For resolve or Ghost weapons: Kensei Armor improves resolve gain and Ghost weapon effects; Samurai Clan Armor grants more resolve when hit.
  • For exploration: Traveler’s Attire supports artifact tracking and fog clearing.

Where to find cosmetic outfits and headgear

The armor guide describes masks as vanity items with no stat effects. Its examples include rewards from main and side quests, the “The Undying Flame” Mythic Tale, bamboo strikes, Inari shrines, and the Golden Temple gift altar. Helmets and headbands are also described as cosmetic, with rewards at fixed world locations and through quests, Mythic Tales, and haiku activities. The customization guide says most headbands come from composing haiku at map locations, while others are quest rewards; armor dyes come from quests or merchants. For the guide’s item routes, see its armor, mask, and headgear listing and the customization guide.
