NYT Connections #508 was published on October 31, 2024. Its four groups are terms of endearment, things you can do with your eyelids, sports cars, and phrases completed by “hunt.” Use the staged hints below before revealing the answers.

Spoiler warning: The first section offers clues without naming the groups; the full solution follows. This is the October 31, 2024 puzzle, not the different Connections puzzle published on October 31, 2025. TechRadar’s contemporaneous guide identifies it as #508; a Forbes search-result snippet independently corroborates the date and number.

Answers for October 31, 2024

The grid’s Halloween associations can be distracting: there is no Halloween-themed category. Instead, the words fit four different connections.

Color Category Words
Yellow Terms of endearment DARLING, LOVE, PUMPKIN, TREASURE
Green Things you can do with your eyelids BAT, BLINK, FLUTTER, WINK
Blue Sports cars DIABLO, MUSTANG, SPIDER, VIPER
Purple ___ HUNT EGG, JOB, SCAVENGER, WITCH

How the tricky words fit

PUMPKIN belongs with affectionate names

PUMPKIN may suggest Halloween, but here it is a term of endearment, alongside DARLING, LOVE, and TREASURE.

BAT is an eyelid action

BAT is a verb meaning to blink or flutter the eyelids; it belongs with BLINK, FLUTTER, and WINK, not with the Halloween words.

The purple group completes “hunt”

EGG hunt, job hunt, scavenger hunt, and witch hunt complete the phrase. TREASURE may seem like a tempting fit for “hunt,” but it is used in the endearment group instead.
