The widely cited $65,700 is an approximate conversion, not the amount stated in yen or a court award.
What Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed
Nintendo announced on September 19, 2024, that it and The Pokémon Company had filed suit against Pocketpair in the Tokyo District Court the previous day. Nintendo described the case as alleging that Palworld infringes multiple patent rights, and said the plaintiffs were seeking an injunction and compensation for damages. These are the plaintiffs’ allegations and requested remedies, not a court finding. Nintendo’s announcement.

How much damages are they seeking?
In a November 8, 2024, report, Pocketpair said The Pokémon Company and Nintendo each sought ¥5 million, plus late-payment damages. That makes ¥10 million in stated principal damages combined; the report does not specify a total including late-payment damages. Pocketpair’s report.
The $65,700 figure in the headline is an approximate conversion of that yen principal, not a dollar-denominated amount stated by Pocketpair. Exchange rates change, and the cited report does not provide a fixed dollar equivalent. The claim is a request by the plaintiffs, not damages already awarded by a court.

Which patents did Pocketpair identify?
Pocketpair’s November 2024 report names Japanese Patent Nos. 7545191, 7493117, and 7528390. That is Pocketpair’s account of the patents named by the plaintiffs; the cited company statements do not establish that infringement occurred or resolve the patents’ validity.
What Pocketpair says about the allegations and game changes
In a May 8, 2025, statement, Pocketpair said it disputed the claims and asserted that the patents in question were invalid. It also said the proceedings had prompted changes to Palworld. Pocketpair’s statement.

Summoning Pals
Pocketpair said patch v0.3.11, released November 30, 2024, removed the ability to summon Pals by throwing Pal Spheres. The patch instead made a summoned Pal appear in a fixed position next to the player.
Gliding
Pocketpair said that from patch v0.5.5 onward, players needed to have a glider in their inventory to glide. Pals could still provide passive gliding buffs, according to the company.
