Nintendo’s Canadian price update for the original Switch family was announced in 2025, not as a new increase in 2026. The change took effect on August 1, 2025, according to MobileSyrup’s reporting. Its reported examples were a Switch Lite rising from C$259.99 to C$279.99 and a Switch OLED rising from C$449.99 to C$489.99. Nintendo’s announcement cited market conditions but did not publish the revised price table in the release.
When did Nintendo raise original Switch prices in Canada?
Nintendo of Canada announced a pricing update on June 30, 2025, covering the original Nintendo Switch family and related products: Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite, physical and digital games, and accessories. Nintendo said the update was based on market conditions. Its announcement did not specify the new prices or give a more detailed explanation of the cause. MobileSyrup reported that the revised prices took effect August 1, 2025. It reported these two console price changes:
| Model | Previously reported price | Reported price from August 1, 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch Lite | C$259.99 | C$279.99 |
| Nintendo Switch OLED | C$449.99 | C$489.99 |
These amounts are MobileSyrup’s reported prices, not a price table published in Nintendo’s June announcement. The available reporting cited here does not establish a complete revised price for the standard Switch, every game, or every accessory. MobileSyrup’s August 1, 2025 report

What does “market conditions” mean?
For the 2025 Canadian adjustment, Nintendo’s stated rationale was market conditions. The cited announcement does not identify a specific driver, so it does not establish that exchange rates, tariffs, component costs, or any other single factor caused the increase.
How is the 2026 Switch price news different?
Nintendo’s May 8, 2026 notice set a Canadian price increase for Switch 2, from C$629.99 to C$679.99, effective September 1, 2026. The original Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lite revisions in that same notice applied to Japan and took effect May 25, 2026—not Canada. Nintendo’s May 8, 2026 price-revision notice

Nintendo tied the 2026 Japanese revisions to market conditions and its global business outlook. It said the impact of changes in market conditions was expected to extend over the medium to long term for overseas revisions. That is a broad explanation in the 2026 notice, not a more detailed account of the separate 2025 Canadian adjustment.
