Nintendo’s standalone Talking Flower is a Mario-themed home accessory that speaks on its own or when you press its Talk Button. It can announce the hour, comment on the time and temperature, and play select background music. It is not a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 accessory, does not interact with games, and does not respond to voice commands.
What does the Talking Flower do?
Inspired by the Talking Flower in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, this is a standalone accessory for the home or desk. Nintendo says it offers encouragement and silly quips, speaking spontaneously as well as when you press the Talk Button. It can also announce the hour—Nintendo qualifies that as “mostly accurately”—comment on the time of day and temperature, and play select background music. Nintendo’s US product listing describes these features.

Languages and schedule settings
Configured speech is supported in English, Spanish (Latin America or Spain), French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. Nintendo says other languages may occasionally be heard. You can set a bedtime and wake-up time; holding the Talk Button for at least two seconds enables quiet time. For operation and troubleshooting details, see Nintendo Support’s Talking Flower guide.
Can you talk back to it?
No. The Talk Button prompts the flower to speak, but it is not a voice-command device or a conversational assistant. Nintendo UK explicitly notes that “Talking Flower does not respond to or interact with voice commands.” The button is the way to prompt it; spoken replies from the user are not part of the interaction described by Nintendo.

#1 Best Overall
- Nintendo Talking Flower debuted in Super Mario Bros. Wonder and now she's coming into reality!
- This little flower has no tongue in its pocket. She can speak spontaneously or you can press the button to speak at any time. It has no shortage of resources and she may well reserve you a special replica.
- Hold down the button to stop talking… finally for a while.
- She can also comment on different times of the day and even give you the time, when she is not mistaken, and she can speak 11 different languages.
- Liven up your daily life with the Cancan Flower available from March 12.
Does it connect to Switch or Switch 2?
No. Nintendo says the standalone Talking Flower is not compatible with Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 and does not interact with games. Its connection to Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the character inspiration, not a console feature.
Talking Flower vs. the Captain Toad & Talking Flower amiibo
These are two different products. The standalone flower is an ambient home accessory; the amiibo is an NFC game accessory that can provide extras in compatible games. Nintendo lists the separate Captain Toad & Talking Flower amiibo as part of the Super Mario Bros. Wonder series.
