What “available today” meant in the original Nioh 3 announcement
KOEI TECMO and Team NINJA revealed Nioh 3 on June 4, 2025, during a PlayStation State of Play. The free alpha demo was exclusive to PS5 and available only through June 18, 2025. That is the limited-time demo referred to in the original headline; it is not the later demo released in 2026. PlayStation’s announcement and Team NINJA’s Nioh 3 site describe the reveal and alpha.

Players who cleared the 2025 alpha received a special helmet for the full game. The alpha presented a dark samurai action RPG in a fictionalized Sengoku-era Japan, with open-field exploration, yokai, suspicious villages, and a challenge area called the Crucible.
How the two Nioh 3 demos differ

Is the Nioh 3 demo still available?
The 2025 alpha is over. The separate PS5 and Steam demo was released in January 2026, but its official page says distribution may end without prior notice. Current availability therefore depends on the live listing in your regional PlayStation Store or Steam store; the available information does not establish that it can still be downloaded everywhere.

The later demo’s original Twin-Snake Helmet completion reward had a February 15, 2026 deadline. The official demo page also described a time-limited full-game route for obtaining that item through Jakotsu-baba: a guaranteed drop through February 15, 2026, then a rare drop. Those dates have passed, so they should not be treated as current reward terms.
What the 2026 demo required
- To transfer demo progress, use the same device and the same PSN or Steam account for the demo and full game.
- The demo requires an active network connection.
- Online multiplayer requires the relevant platform’s online-service subscription.
- The Steam demo and full-game versions could not connect to one another for multiplayer.
These access and transfer conditions are listed on the official Nioh 3 demo page.

What Nioh 3 is, and where it is available
KOEI TECMO lists Nioh 3 as released on February 6, 2026, for PS5 and PC. Its official overview highlights open-field exploration and two combat styles—Samurai and Ninja—that players can switch between freely. Samurai combat builds on the series’ established approach, adding Arts Proficiency to strengthen martial arts and Deflect for last-moment blocks. Ninja combat focuses on movement, aerial attacks, Ninjutsu, Mist, and Evade. The game also includes online Summon Visitor and Expeditions modes. The publisher describes protagonist Tokugawa Takechiyo’s conflict with his younger brother Tokugawa Kunimatsu, who is driven by jealousy and leads yokai against him. The story travels through Edo Castle, Totomi during the Warring States period, Heian-era Kyoto, and the Bakumatsu period, with each era presented as a vast open field. KOEI TECMO America’s February 2026 announcement gives those story details.

What the reveal said about development
In the June 4, 2025 PlayStation Blog announcement, Nioh 3 producer and Team NINJA Head Fumihiko Yasuda invited players to share feedback during development: “Team Ninja takes player feedback extremely seriously, and as we continue development on our biggest and boldest Nioh yet, we look forward to reading what you think about our latest game.”

KOEI TECMO America reported that Nioh 3 had sold more than 1 million copies worldwide by February 19, 2026, calling it the fastest one-million-sales milestone in franchise history. The publisher also reported more than 10 million Nioh franchise copies sold by that date. These are publisher-reported milestones for that date, not current lifetime totals.
