Palworld’s Sakurajima Update arrived as Steam version v0.3.1. Pocketpair’s patch announcement is dated June 26, 2024, while a separate promotional post labels the update June 27. The update added the Sakurajima island, new Pals, a level-cap increase, new resource and crafting progression, combat activities, and extensive base-building changes.
When did the Sakurajima Update come out?
Pocketpair’s v0.3.1 patch announcement is dated June 26, 2024 and says the update had been released on Steam. A separate Steam News post calls it the “Sakurajima Update June 27, 2024.” The posts do not explain the one-day difference, so these dates should be treated as the labels used by the respective announcements rather than as evidence of a specific rollout time in every region.

What did the update add?
Sakurajima island and new encounters
The headline addition is Sakurajima, a new island area featuring the Moonflowers faction and new Pals to discover. Players can also encounter random meteorite or supply-drop events, which may bring an unknown Pal. The update added Monster Nest events involving stealing eggs, plus new Pal skills and passive abilities.
New combat activities and weapons
The Desiccated Desert gained an arena for fighting other players. Pocketpair explicitly marks the arena as multiplayer-exclusive. The update also added the Blazamut Ryu raid and hard modes for each tower boss.

New weapons include a laser rifle, flamethrower, Gatling gun, grenade launcher, guided missile launcher, multi-guided missile launcher, and meteor launcher. The Medal Merchant offers rare items in exchange for Dog Coins.
Crude oil, Plasteel, and progression
The player level cap rose to 55, with new technologies to unlock. Crude oil became a resource that can be extracted using a new building at certain locations. It is used to make Plasteel, which supports crafting higher-tier equipment and spheres.

The Pal capture-bonus limit increased from 10 to 12. Lifmunk Effigy power enhancement also rose from 10 to 12.
Base building, storage, and new facilities
Pal Box capacity increased from 480 to 960 Pals. The maximum base level rose to 25, and players can have up to four bases at level 25, up from three. Building gained pillars, axis alignment, connected defensive walls, more flexible attachment points, and glass as a construction material.

New buildings and facilities include a Cold Food Box, Sulfur Mine, Coal Mine, Pal Disassembly Conveyor, Wall-Mounted Sign, and Refrigerated Crusher. Players can permanently assign a Pal to a facility from the Monitoring Stand, and cakes receive priority when transporting items.
Other quality-of-life additions
- Lockpicking, using a Lockpicking Tool.
- Pal skins, managed through a Pal Dressing Facility.
- Private chest locks, additional map markers, and improved Pal Box locking and sorting.
- Batch crafting in quantities of up to 100, plus work-priority adjustments.
- Six new soundtrack songs, alongside balance changes and bug fixes.
Is the new content for solo players or multiplayer?
The arena is the feature the patch notes specifically identify as multiplayer-exclusive. The oil-rig stronghold is controlled by the Rayne Syndicate and is described as a place where players can cooperate against powerful enemies to obtain crude oil; the notes do not label it multiplayer-exclusive. The new island, progression systems, building changes, raid, and tower-boss hard modes are listed without the same multiplayer-only designation.

What changed for managing bases?
In addition to the higher Pal Box capacity and base limits, players can change the maximum number of guild bases and base Pals through in-game options. Pocketpair cautions that allowing too many bases or too many Pals at one base may cause performance issues. The added construction controls and facility-management options give players more flexibility, but the configurable limits come with that performance trade-off.
