Pearl Abyss’s Gamescom 2023 trailer for Crimson Desert offered a look at Kliff exploring Pywel, with open-world travel, varied combat and activities ranging from fishing to horse taming. That footage was a historical gameplay reveal, not a statement of the game’s current release plans: Pearl Abyss now describes the game in the context of post-launch updates and an Enhanced edition.
When Crimson Desert returned with new footage
Dean Takahashi reported for GamesBeat on August 22, 2023 that Crimson Desert appeared at Gamescom Opening Night Live with a new gameplay trailer. The game had previously been shown at The Game Awards in 2020. GamesBeat described the 2023 footage as a tour of a large open world and said it followed protagonist Kliff investigating events in Hernand, a region of Pywel.

The 2023 report also said Pearl Abyss planned a simultaneous global release on consoles and PC. That was the plan reported at the time; it is not a current release-date or availability confirmation. The report gave no exact launch date.
What the Gamescom trailer reportedly showed
GamesBeat’s account of the trailer described a mix of exploration, combat and activities beyond fighting. The following are details reported from the footage, not observations from an independent playthrough.

- Fights against knights and other enemies, using hand-to-hand attacks as well as objects or elements of the surroundings.
- Boss fights, duels and battles against groups of enemies.

- Open-world traversal, including skydiving and movement GamesBeat characterized as parkour-like.
- Fishing, arm-wrestling and horse taming.
GamesBeat also described the footage as 4K. That refers to the displayed trailer, not a verified performance result or a guarantee about resolution on any particular platform.
How Pearl Abyss describes the game now
Pearl Abyss currently labels Crimson Desert an “Open-World Action-Adventure.” Its official overview describes Kliff as a Greymane whose group is left dead or scattered after an ambush. His goal is to find the survivors and rebuild the faction on Pywel. The company’s page says: “On the unforgiving battlefields of Crimson Desert, there is no single path to victory.”

The current official page also refers to post-launch updates and says existing owners receive a free upgrade to the Enhanced edition. It presents Standard, Deluxe and Collector’s editions, but the reviewed page information does not establish their detailed contents, current prices or availability by region and platform.
