What Pearl Abyss said about the rumors in 2025
On June 20, 2025, Insider Gaming reported that an unnamed Korean outlet had said Pearl Abyss contacted several companies to gauge interest in buying CCP Games. Insider Gaming said Pearl Abyss’s response stopped short of a complete denial.
In a statement supplied to Insider Gaming, Pearl Abyss said: “While we regularly review various strategies to enhance our global competitiveness, no decisions have been made, and we have nothing to announce at this time.” Insider Gaming’s June 20, 2025 report records both the reported approach to potential buyers and the company’s response.
That wording described the company’s position at the time. It did not rule out a future sale, and it should not be read as a permanent denial.

What changed in 2026
On April 30, 2026, Pearl Abyss disclosed that its subsidiary Pearl Abyss Iceland would dispose of all 10,973,763 shares it held in CCP ehf. The filing stated consideration of KRW 177.132 billion, calculated using the exchange rate specified in the filing. It described the consideration as USD 100 million in cash plus rights to receive tokens valued at USD 20 million. The token rights were not cash already received.
The filing listed May 6, 2026, as the planned closing date. Pearl Abyss’s subsequent quarterly filing confirmed that the transaction was completed on that date and treated CCP-related operations as discontinued operations. Who bought CCP Games?
Pearl Abyss’s first-quarter 2026 earnings letter identifies CCP’s current management as the buyer and refers to the former CCP entity as Fenris Creations.
