Team GO Rocket balloons appear only occasionally outside specified events, and Niantic does not publish a fixed spawn interval. If one seems missing, zoom out and scan around your avatar; a balloon can appear nearby rather than directly overhead, and it will leave after a limited time. You can check for event updates and troubleshoot general game problems, but those steps do not force a balloon to spawn.
Why a Team GO Rocket balloon may not appear
- There is no guaranteed routine schedule. Niantic says balloons normally appear “occasionally” and may appear more frequently during specified events. Its Team GO Rocket Balloons help page gives no fixed hourly interval or spawn percentage.
- The balloon is personal to your account. Another Trainer nearby may not see the same balloon. Niantic notes that balloons are unique to each Trainer.
- It may have left already. Balloons stay on the map for a limited time, so you can miss one if you do not tap it before it flies away.
- Event timing can affect frequency. Niantic says balloons may appear more frequently during specified periods and events, but does not provide a standing event-independent timetable.
What to do when you cannot find one
- Zoom out and inspect around your avatar. If you see a round shadow near your Trainer, scan the nearby map; the balloon may not be directly above the avatar. Tap it promptly if you find it.
- Check current event information. Review the Today View in Pokémon GO and Niantic’s official channels for event updates that may affect balloon frequency.
- Rule out general game or connection problems. Update Pokémon GO, test a stable internet connection or switch networks, and restart the app if the map is not loading normally.
- Refresh game data if problems continue. In the app, open Settings → Advanced Settings → Refresh Game Data. Niantic’s Android troubleshooting guide and iOS troubleshooting guide also recommend checking that your device’s date and time are set to update automatically. Android guidance lists clearing the app cache and data as an additional troubleshooting option.
- Verify Adventure Sync afterward. Niantic warns that refreshing game data may turn Adventure Sync off, so check its setting when the refresh is complete.
These are general checks for map, connection, or game-data issues. Niantic does not say that any of them triggers or guarantees a Rocket balloon spawn, and its balloon guidance identifies no device setting, purchase, or repair that controls spawn timing.
What Rocket Radars change
If you have a Rocket Radar equipped, Niantic says the next balloon to arrive will be piloted by Arlo, Cliff, or Sierra. With a Super Rocket Radar equipped, the next balloon will be piloted by Giovanni. Niantic does not say that equipping either Radar changes the ordinary balloon schedule.
