Yes, using a MIG Switch on Nintendo Switch 2 may put access to Nintendo’s online services at risk—but a Switch 2 ban is not established as an automatic outcome. Nintendo identifies MIG Switch/MIG Flash as circumvention devices and warns that unauthorized devices can reduce online functionality, affect warranty coverage, or leave a console unable to work after network updates. A June 2025 report also described Switch 2 users who said they lost online access after using MIG. That report is not an official Nintendo confirmation or a measure of how often restrictions occur.
What Nintendo says about MIG Switch
Nintendo of America’s Intellectual Property & Piracy FAQ explicitly names MIG Switch/MIG Flash among piracy cartridges it classifies as circumvention devices. Nintendo’s stated position is that using unauthorized circumvention devices can carry consequences; the FAQ does not say that every MIG use results in a ban, or specifically confirm an automatic Switch 2 ban.
Nintendo describes several possible consequences in its reduced-functionality guidance:
- Online features may be limited. Nintendo warns that unauthorized devices can result in reduced functionality, including being unable to play online.
- Warranty coverage may not apply. Nintendo warns that damage connected with unauthorized devices may not be covered by warranty.
- A network update may affect whether the console works. Nintendo states: “There is also a risk, where an unauthorized device has been used, that a console may no longer work following network updates.”
Nintendo UK gives similar general cautions on its Circumvention Products page. These are Nintendo’s policy statements about unauthorized circumvention devices, not a Switch 2-specific guarantee of what will happen in each case.

What the Switch 2 ban reports establish—and what they don’t
In a report published June 17, 2025, Anthony Bouchard at iDownloadBlog recounted user claims that Switch 2 consoles were restricted from Nintendo’s online services after MIG use. That makes the warning relevant to Switch 2 owners, but it remains a report of user-described incidents—not an official Nintendo announcement about MIG-specific Switch 2 bans.
The report does not establish how many consoles were affected, how likely a restriction is, or a verified detection method. Nintendo’s cited FAQ explains general risks from unauthorized devices; it does not provide a technical account of how a MIG device might be detected on Switch 2. Claims about a specific trigger or mechanism should therefore be treated as unverified.

Should you use MIG if you want to keep playing online?
If Nintendo Switch 2 online access matters to you, the prudent choice is not to use MIG Switch. Nintendo warns that unauthorized circumvention devices may impair online functionality, and the 2025 report describes users who said they lost that access after MIG use. The available evidence does not support a promise that a particular use pattern, game source, or other precaution will avoid restrictions.
For supported play, Nintendo says Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. Nintendo Account, Nintendo eShop, and Nintendo Switch Online features are also part of the supported service context. Does this mean every MIG user will be banned?
No. Nintendo’s policy describes possible consequences of using unauthorized circumvention devices, and the Switch 2-specific examples cited here come from user reports in a June 2025 news article. Neither source establishes that every use triggers a ban, or provides a verified rate of Switch 2 restrictions. The accurate takeaway is that online access is at risk, not that a ban is certain.
