Yes. The Nintendo Switch versions of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen are compatible with Pokémon HOME. Support went live in HOME version 4.1.0 on October 6, 2026. The important catch: a Pokémon transferred from either game to HOME cannot be moved back into that game.

How to transfer Pokémon from FireRed or LeafGreen to HOME

Use the console version of Pokémon HOME on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2; the transfer flow is not handled through the mobile app. Before starting, move any Pokémon you want to keep using in the game out of the box you intend to transfer.

  1. Open Pokémon HOME on your Switch or Switch 2.
  2. Choose GBA games, then select Pokémon FireRed or Pokémon LeafGreen.
  3. Select the user and save data you want to access. HOME can access save data for any user on the system, so check this selection carefully and do not transfer another player’s Pokémon without permission.
  4. Review the transfer warning, then choose a box. All eligible Pokémon in the selected box transfer together.

Pokémon currently in your party are not eligible for transfer. If you want a party Pokémon to be eligible later, move it into a box in the game first.

What happens after a Pokémon moves to HOME?

The transfer out is one-way: Nintendo states that a Pokémon transferred from FireRed or LeafGreen to HOME cannot be transferred back to either source game. If a Pokémon matters to your in-game team or collection, leave it in the game rather than selecting its box for transfer.

Moving a Pokémon into HOME also does not mean it can enter every other HOME-connected game. Check that Pokémon’s compatible-game list in HOME before planning where to send it next.

Do you need HOME Premium or Nintendo Switch Online?

No paid HOME plan is required for transfers on Switch or Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch Online is not required to use HOME. Nintendo’s current FAQ says the Basic Plan includes a Basic Box that holds 30 Pokémon. Premium changes HOME’s storage capacity, not the requirement to transfer from these games: version 4.1.0 raised Premium deposit capacity from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokémon, with Nintendo saying the plan price did not change.

What to know about the Switch releases

Nintendo describes the Switch releases as standalone Nintendo eShop software with no physical release. They support local wireless features, but not online play. In the Pokémon Wireless Club, up to four other players can connect for Union Room trading, battling, or a minigame. Nintendo also says the games are not planned for the Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Classics collection.

Nintendo’s February 2026 release announcement said HOME transfers would be available; the current status is confirmed by the October 6 update, not merely planned support. Although fans’ concern is reflected in the topic, Nintendo’s official materials do not quantify how many players were worried.
