Its free Winter Wishes research let players choose either 2× XP or 2× Stardust for catching Pokémon. Part 1 introduced Cetoddle and Cetitan; Part 2 brought holiday-costume Psyduck and Golduck and the first chance to encounter Shiny Vanillite. The event has ended.
When did Winter Holiday 2023 start and end?
The event ran in two parts, with both sets of dates and times given in local time by Niantic. The shorter Winter Wonderland event and Wyrdeer Raid Day overlapped with Part 1; they were separate seasonal activities, not extensions of the same bonus window.

Winter Wishes offered a choice of catch bonus
The free, branching Winter Wishes Timed Research was available across both parts. Players chose one path: 2× XP for catching Pokémon or 2× Stardust for catching Pokémon. The choice shaped the research tasks and the corresponding catch bonus. Completing the research awarded items and winter-themed Pokémon encounters whichever path a player selected.
There was no universally best option in the event terms. XP favors account progression; Stardust is useful for powering up Pokémon. Choose according to what you wanted more at the time, rather than expecting one path to give better completion rewards.
