Yes—for some players. The Mega Dimension DLC adds Mable’s Research tasks that can help you reach the level-50 Shiny Charm reward without completing the base game’s task to win 1,000 Pokémon battles. It is an alternate route, not a guaranteed skip: whether you can avoid that task depends on the research points and tasks remaining on your save.
How the Shiny Charm is earned
The Shiny Charm is a reward for reaching research level 50 in Mable’s Research. Completing research tasks earns points that raise your level. The Charm’s reward level does not change with the DLC; Mega Dimension adds more opportunities to earn progress toward it.

Among the base-game tasks listed by reference sources is one to win 1,000 Pokémon battles. You do not necessarily have to complete it if other tasks supply enough points to reach level 50.
What Mega Dimension changes
Mega Dimension adds two types of research tasks and more tiers to an existing type, according to game reference material. Guides report that these tasks contribute to the same Mable’s Research progress as the base-game tasks. That gives some players another way to earn the points needed for the Shiny Charm, rather than requiring the 1,000-battle task in every case.

#1 Best Overall
- Venture into Hyperspace Lumiose in this additional story content that can be accessed after completing the main game
- Work with the mysterious baker, Ansha, to make donuts that awaken the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa’s power and grant you and your Pokémon a variety of useful effects
- Join Team MZ and the Mega Evolution Successor, Korrina, to investigate Hyperspace Lumiose, the otherworldly home to rare and hyper-strong Pokémon
- Discover new Mega Evolutions such as Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur
- Claim Holo-X and Holo-Y in-game apparel items, which you can wear as soon as you are able to customize your character’s look and outfit in the main game
The DLC’s official descriptions focus on Hyperspace Lumiose, Hoopa’s portals, and donuts that grant useful effects. They do not specify the Shiny Charm’s task-point arithmetic. The claim that DLC tasks can provide an alternative to the battle task comes from reference and guide sources, not from Nintendo’s DLC announcement.
How to tell whether you can skip the 1,000 battles
- Open Mable’s Research in your game and review your current research level, point progress, and unfinished tasks.
- Look at the remaining tasks added by Mega Dimension and the points they can provide. Your menu shows the tasks relevant to your save.
- Compare the available points with what you still need to reach level 50. If other tasks cover the gap, you can leave the 1,000-battle task unfinished; if they do not, you may still need to complete some or all of it.
There is no universal checklist or single fastest route established for every save. Your completed tasks determine the remaining point total, and your choice may come down to whether you would rather battle or do the DLC’s exploration and research tasks.

- Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free.
- As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.
Who can use the DLC route
Mega Dimension is additional paid content, and its story is postgame content. Nintendo says players must complete the main story of Pokémon Legends: Z-A before they can progress through the DLC story, and the full game is required to use the DLC. The official Pokémon announcement also describes Hyperspace Lumiose as part of the DLC.
