To see which free Mystery Gifts your Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield save can claim, open the X menu and select Mystery Gift → Get a Mystery Gift → Get via Internet. The game searches for gifts available at that time. Also check Pokémon HOME’s mobile app for the one-time Hidden Ability Galar starter gift if you meet its transfer condition. As of October 8, 2026, the official sources checked do not confirm a currently active limited-time Sword or Shield code or provide a complete live gift catalog.
Check the game for gifts available to your save
Nintendo’s Mystery Gift instructions say the Internet option searches for gifts currently available. That in-game check is the most reliable way to find out what your save can receive. Availability can depend on a distribution’s conditions and your redemption history, so different players may not see the same result.
- In Sword or Shield, press X to open the menu.
- Select Mystery Gift → Get a Mystery Gift.
- Choose Get via Internet and let the game search. Select a gift if one appears.
- Save after receiving the gift.
Mystery Gift must be unlocked first. Nintendo lists battling the mysterious Pokémon in Slumbering Weald and then speaking to your mom as the unlock steps. Getting a gift over the internet requires an internet connection; the official Pokémon Japan support page says Nintendo Switch Online is not required.
Check Pokémon HOME for the Galar starter gift
There is also a separate HOME reward: Hidden Ability Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. The promotion is tied to moving a Pokémon between Sword or Shield and the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon HOME. The gifts are claimed in the mobile Pokémon HOME app, not delivered directly to your game’s party or Boxes.

- Open Pokémon HOME on a mobile device and select Mystery Gifts → Gift Box.
- Check for the starter gifts if you completed the transfer condition.
Pokémon Support says these gifts are awarded only once, so they may already have been claimed on the HOME account. See the original promotion details and Pokémon Support’s claim-location and eligibility guidance.
Use a code only when you have a valid one
A promotional code is a different redemption route from the Internet search. To redeem one, choose Mystery Gift → Get a Mystery Gift → Get via Code/Password and enter the code supplied for that promotion. Pokémon Support’s promotion redemption guide explains the code process.

For local communication, select Get via Local Communication when a nearby distribution is available. Nintendo’s instructions describe the other in-game delivery destinations; the HOME starter reward has its own claim location.

How to find out about new distributions
Pokémon Support directs players to Pokémon.com for current or upcoming distribution announcements. Support also says it cannot provide information about unannounced future distributions or possible re-releases.
The official information checked for October 8, 2026 does not offer a complete current catalog or a confirmed active code with an expiration date. If the game’s Internet search shows no gift and you do not have a valid officially announced code, no direct in-game redemption is confirmed here as available now.
