Not all Battlefield 6 Portal experiences offer the same progression. EA’s current FAQ says Verified Community Experiences grant the same categories of EXP players can earn in official modes, while Custom Community Experiences award Time Played EXP if you stay until the match ends. Check an experience’s menu description before joining: it lists the rewards available for that experience.
What “nerfed” means for Portal progression
Portal does not have one progression rule that applies to every community experience. The key distinction is whether an experience is Verified or Custom, and the reward information displayed in its menu. EA’s current Battlefield 6 FAQ describes the present distinction in broad terms: Verified experiences grant the same categories of EXP as official modes; Custom experiences grant Time Played EXP when a player stays through the end of a match.

That means a Custom experience can feel restricted if your goal is to advance through the same progression categories you expect in standard multiplayer. It does not mean every Portal experience received the same reduction or that Portal progression was removed altogether.
Verified vs. Custom Community Experiences
| Experience type | What EA says about progression | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Verified Community Experience | Grants the same categories of EXP players can earn in official modes, according to EA’s current FAQ. | Players seeking progression categories associated with official modes. |
| Custom Community Experience | Awards Time Played EXP if you stay until the match ends, according to EA’s current FAQ. EA’s menu description identifies the rewards available for that experience. | Players prioritizing a distinctive community-made mode over standard progression. |
EA’s October 10, 2025 Portal guide gave a more detailed breakdown for that point in time. It said Verified experiences provided standard Multiplayer progression for Career XP match completion and win bonus, Hardware XP, and Mission and Assignments progress. It described Custom experiences as not providing standard Career XP, Hardware XP, or Mission and Assignment Progress rates; instead, they offered a Career XP match-completion award described as higher than a similar award for finishing a Multiplayer match. The guide said Custom experiences were labelled “Modified XP.”

The current FAQ uses simpler wording than that older guide, so treat the guide’s category-by-category list as dated context rather than a guarantee of the exact rewards currently offered by every experience. The menu shown in-game is the practical check for an individual experience.
Why EA restricted XP-farming servers
In a launch-period update on the EA Forums, EA said its first-week review found many community servers designed primarily to farm XP, inflate stats, and earn accolades by defeating bots. EA explained that these servers made it harder for players to create and find experiences with other people, and said it was developing adjustments to reduce their impact.

- TACTICAL DESTRUCTION — Turn the environment into a weapon by demolishing structures, reshaping the battlefield, and using reactive destruction systems for strategic advantage.
This explains the rationale for limiting some progression paths: EA was trying to protect access to active community play, not simply make every Portal server less rewarding. The explanation does not establish that all Portal experiences were adjusted identically.
How to check rewards before joining
- Open Portal and find the community experience you want to play.
- Read the experience’s menu description before joining. EA says this is where its available rewards are communicated.
- Check whether it is identified as Verified or Custom, and note any “Modified XP” label where shown.
- Compare the displayed rewards with your goal. If you need standard challenge or hardware advancement, do not assume a Custom experience will provide it; use the displayed information to decide.
- If the menu does not make a particular reward clear, choose an experience whose description does. The available rewards are experience-specific.
What later updates do—and do not—confirm
EA’s October 1, 2026 look-ahead to Season 5 and beyond says the studio’s work over the prior year included faster progression. That statement concerns Battlefield 6 more broadly; it does not confirm a Portal-specific progression change.

In a June 2026 community update, EA acknowledged player requests for better progression and stats handling in UGX experiences and said it was investigating, with nothing to share at that time. The update also noted Portal stability concerns and that game updates can require builders to update their experiences. It records concerns and ongoing work, not proof that a particular Portal progression change subsequently took effect.
