Fortnite Reload is the mode getting the Stranger Things crossover: Epic announced that Stranger Things and Squid Grounds maps would join Reload’s map rotation on October 8, 2026, alongside an updated Nitemare Island. The announcement is separate from the Stranger Things-themed Blitz Royale content reported in 2025.
Which Fortnite mode is getting the Stranger Things crossover?
It is Fortnite Reload. Epic’s October 1, 2026 Fortnitemares announcement says that an updated Nitemare Island would arrive in Reload alongside the Stranger Things and Squid Grounds maps on October 8. Epic’s announcement places the crossover maps in Reload’s rotation, not in Battle Royale or Horde Rush.
Epic’s official Fortnite Communities post likewise says the maps “also join the map rotation.” It describes the refreshed island as a return of Nightmare Island, with Elite Kado Thorne calling the shots, horror weapons, and Siphon loot that restores health as players deal damage.
When were the maps announced to arrive?
Epic announced October 8, 2026 as the scheduled date for the Reload update. Its Reload update note identifies the Nitemare Island: Kado’s Curse season launch as planned for that date. The note also mentions new gameplay and weapons, plus cosmetic rewards tied to Ranked and Map Mastery, and advises players to finish the previous season’s Map Mastery quests and Ranked rewards before the new season.

The announcements establish the planned date and map-rotation change; they do not independently confirm that the maps were playable at a particular moment on October 8.

Stranger Things has also been associated with a separate Fortnite mode. A November 27, 2025 PC Gamer guide covered an earlier Stranger Things theme and Hawkins map in Blitz Royale.
