Planet Coaster 2 is built around an appealing combination: create a theme park with roller coasters and water attractions, then manage the people and infrastructure that keep it running. PC Gamer praised its creation tools and water attractions but judged its management simulation less deep than some alternatives. That makes it a stronger fit for players drawn to designing parks than for those seeking the richest management challenge.
What is new in Planet Coaster 2?
The defining addition is the ability to build a water park alongside traditional theme-park attractions. Frontier says pools and coaster attractions can share a park, and its ride guide includes roller coasters, flat rides, tracked rides and flumes. That variety gives builders more ways to shape a park than a coaster-only focus would allow. Frontier’s Planet Coaster 2 site presents the combined park-building proposition; its ride guide documents attraction types.
How does the building and management work?
Creation is paired with operating systems rather than being limited to scenery and ride placement. Frontier’s management overview describes park ratings and objectives, staff and finances, ride operations, power distribution and water filtration networks. Pools and rides therefore sit within a broader infrastructure and management layer: players must plan for utilities as well as attractions. These are developer-described features, not evidence on their own that every system is intuitive or deeply simulated. Frontier’s management deep dive explains the systems.
Is Planet Coaster 2 worth it?
For players who want extensive creative tools and the freedom to design water attractions as well as coasters, the feature mix is the clearest reason to consider it. The main reservation in the cited review is management depth. PC Gamer wrote: “Planet Coaster 2 may not be the deepest management sim you can buy, but its powerful creation tools and newly added water attractions make a sufficiently satisfying splash.” That is one reviewer’s judgment, not a consensus score or a claim about current player sentiment. #1 Best Overall
- Build and customise thrilling roller coasters and incredible water slides, manage the ultimate theme park experience, and share your epic creations. Are you ready to ride the wave?
- Create a splash with Planet Coaster 2 - sequel to the world’s best coaster park simulator!
Is it better than the first Planet Coaster?
The clearest distinction established here is the expanded scope: Planet Coaster 2 adds water-park construction to the coaster-focused park-building proposition. Whether that makes it better depends on what you want from a sequel. If pools and flumes are central to your plans, the added attraction types matter; if your priority is management depth, PC Gamer’s assessment suggests caution. The available evidence does not establish a broad, feature-by-feature verdict on which game is better overall.
Which platforms can you play it on?
Frontier’s FAQ lists PC through Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Platform availability, storefront offers and online features can change, so check the relevant current listing before buying. The same FAQ says PC supports controllers, while console players can use either a gamepad or mouse and keyboard. It also describes a console complexity meter that stops players from adding buildings or rides when it reaches 100; check current platform behavior if that limit affects your plans. Frontier’s FAQ is the source for these platform and control details.

Can a low-end PC or Mac run Planet Coaster 2?
Frontier’s FAQ lists the following PC specifications. They are the developer’s published requirements, not independent performance results; verify the current Steam or Epic listing before purchase, since requirements can be updated.
| Specification | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10/11 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Intel i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800 |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB), AMD Radeon RX 5600XT (6 GB), or Intel Arc 750 (8 GB) | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super (8 GB), AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (12 GB), or Intel Arc 770 (16 GB) |
| DirectX | Version 12 | DirectX 12 Ultimate |
| Storage | 25 GB | 25 GB |
The published minimum is not a guarantee of smooth performance on every park or setting; no independent performance testing is established here. Frontier’s FAQ says there is no native macOS version and identifies GeForce NOW as a cloud-play option for people without suitable local hardware. Cloud availability and service requirements should be checked with GeForce NOW before relying on that route.

Does Planet Coaster 2 have multiplayer or park sharing?
Frontier describes Franchise as an online mode with connected parks and leaderboards. Its FAQ also says players can visit parks, share and download parks and blueprints through the cross-platform Frontier Workshop, and collaborate one at a time in Franchise and Sandbox across platforms. “One at a time” does not mean simultaneous co-building. These are documented features; their current availability depends on online-service status. Frontier’s FAQ describes the modes and sharing features.

Frontier has published post-launch updates. For example, its Update 4 announcement lists pool color options and a rebuilt Scizzer flat ride among the changes. That announcement is a snapshot of one update, not a complete or current changelog, and it does not establish that a later patch changed the management criticisms in PC Gamer’s review.
