PEAK Fans Begged for Cannibalism. The Developer Added It Anyway

Aggro Crab joked that PEAK couldn’t add cannibalism. A July 2025 update added it, and a developer-marked Steam reply promised players a toggle.

PEAK’s developers first joked that they couldn’t add cannibalism. By the end of July 2025, the feature was in the game: an update added it, and a developer-marked Steam reply said players would be able to switch it off. The refusal was a punchline, not the final word.

How PEAK went from “absolutely not” to cannibalism

PEAK’s Steam listing describes a co-op climbing game about nature scouts trying to climb a mountain on a mysterious island. It lists June 16, 2025, as the release date and names Team PEAK as developer, with Aggro Crab and Landfall as publishers.

The original refusal was a joke

On July 2, 2025, Aggro Crab posted, “Guys we can’t add cannibalism to Peak,” after players asked for the mechanic, according to GamesRadar. The replies captured the playful demand: “but what if just one little nibble” and “literally why not I just want a bite.”

The feature arrived later that month

On July 30, 2025, GameSpot reported that an update had added cannibalism; its reproduced patch notes simply say, “Added cannibalism.” GameSpot described the mechanic as available when a player is too hungry, with an eaten avatar turning into a skeleton. The developer framed the change with the line, “Totally normal update to the game. Nothing to see here.”

That update also included Polish and Turkish translations, a climbing field-of-view option, push-to-mute, balance changes, and fixes, according to GameSpot’s July 2025 report. Those are details of that update, not confirmation of what is in PEAK’s latest build.

What is known about turning cannibalism off

On July 29, 2025, Neo Solarius posted a reply marked as the developer’s answer in a Steam discussion about making cannibalism optional: “Hello everyone! Thanks for giving us feedback on this feature. You will be able to toggle this feature on and off in the next patch. We appreciate the patience <3”

That establishes a developer promise of an on/off setting. It does not independently verify whether the setting remains available or where it appears in the current version. The cited July 2025 reports establish the feature’s arrival and the toggle promise, not the newest patch number or present-day behavior.

Why the headline needs an update

The short version is that players asked for a ridiculous survival-game scenario, the developer initially said it could not be added, and a later update added it. A developer-marked reply then promised an opt-out. GamesRadar also reported that PEAK had sold more than two million copies in just over two weeks in 2025; that is a historical figure, not a current sales total.

PEAK is listed as a digital PC game on Steam. The story concerns an in-game feature, not a physical product or real-world climbing advice.
