QuakeCon 2024 brought two major DOOM announcements: an opt-in preview of PC mod support for DOOM Eternal, backed by idStudio creator tools, and the six-game DOOM Anthology collector set. Bethesda also announced the release of DOOM + DOOM II, a physical SNES edition of DOOM and several updates across its other games. These are historical event announcements from August 8–11, 2024; launch and preorder dates below are not current offers.
DOOM Eternal PC mods: what was announced
On August 8, 2024, Bethesda said id Software had released idStudio Beta, an official idTech engine suite for creating DOOM Eternal mods. Players could opt into a PC Mod Preview through Steam or the Microsoft Store and browse or play community uploads through the DOOM Eternal Mod Portal. This was a PC announcement, not a console-mod announcement. Bethesda’s QuakeCon roundup introduced the preview and tools.

How players accessed the preview
Xbox Wire’s August 8 instructions covered the Windows PC Xbox Insider preview. Participants needed DOOM Eternal (BATTLEMODE – PC) or access through an active Game Pass subscription, then joined through Xbox Insider Hub. The playtest instructions were specifically for Windows PC. Xbox Wire’s preview announcement gives the access details.
How the later mod workflow was organized
In a 2025 update, Bethesda described a launcher that separates the standard game from modded experiences. Its Mods browser lets players browse and activate mods; My Creations is for managing and publishing creations. Steam players could also access idStudio Beta. Bethesda said creators could download optional asset packs and tutorial maps. The available materials included base-campaign assets and selected PvP and The Ancient Gods assets, but DLC map/refmap files were not included for building and playing DLC content maps. The update counted over 650 community mods at that time; that is a dated snapshot, not a current catalog count. Bethesda’s PC Mods update describes the later workflow and its limits.
