Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf Rainbow Six Siege’s scoreboard mute option is grayed out, first check whether only that control is affected or whether voice chat is unavailable more broadly. Ubisoft support has recommended checking account privacy settings when both voice and text chat are disabled, and checking the selected audio input when your own microphone cannot transmit. Neither check is confirmed as a universal fix for a teammate-mute button. Ubisoft’s July 2026 mid-season notes also document a fix for a related gray microphone-icon and voice-communication issue.
First identify what is not working
A disabled mute control, a microphone that will not transmit, and an inability to hear teammates are different symptoms. A gray icon by itself does not establish whether the cause is an account setting, the selected audio device, connectivity, or a game defect.
- Mute-only: You can otherwise hear and use voice chat, but cannot mute one or more players from the scoreboard.
- Your microphone: Teammates cannot hear you, or your own microphone indicator does not behave as expected.
- Broader chat restriction: Voice and possibly text-chat controls are unavailable or grayed out.
- Incoming voice: You cannot hear teammates, even if your own microphone works.
Keep track of whether the issue affects one player or everyone, and whether it began after an update. This helps distinguish a single disabled control from a broader chat problem when you contact support.
If voice and text chat are both grayed out, check Ubisoft privacy settings
For a report of grayed-out voice and text chat, Ubisoft Support advised checking the account’s Privacy Center social preferences and setting “Text and voice chat” to “everyone.” The support reply links directly to Ubisoft account Social Preferences. Account menus and labels can change, so confirm the current wording after signing in.

- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation

- WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion
This is the clearest official support recommendation for a broad gray-chat symptom; it is not a confirmed fix for a mute button that alone is disabled. A player also reported that ISP filtering of VoIP ports was involved in their particular case, but that individual account does not establish a standard cause or justify buying networking equipment.
If your own microphone does not work, check the selected input
When the problem is transmitting your own voice, check which microphone Siege is using. Ubisoft developer support specifically raised the possibility that another connected device, such as a headset microphone or webcam, could be selected as the input. Disconnecting or changing the selected input can help isolate that situation, but the support reply does not show that input selection restores the scoreboard control for muting teammates.

Ubisoft’s September 2026 accessibility overview identifies voice-chat controls including microphone volume, input mode, and noise threshold. These affect voice setup; they should not be mistaken for a fix to a disabled teammate-mute option.
A related gray microphone-icon bug was listed as fixed in July 2026
The July 14, 2026 Y11S2.2 mid-season patch notes, published on a third-party mirror, list a fix for cases where microphone icons were grayed out and players could not communicate by voice. That is evidence of a related voice-communication issue being addressed, not confirmation that every grayed-out mute toggle was fixed. If you still see the problem, note your game version and whether voice communication itself works rather than assuming an update resolved every mute-control bug. See the Y11S2.2 patch-note mirror.

What to send Ubisoft if the problem persists
If the symptom remains reproducible after the relevant checks, use the Rainbow Six Siege support hub or Ubisoft’s bug-reporting guidance. Ubisoft asks bug reports to describe when the issue appears, the expected behavior, the steps to reproduce it, any workaround, and supporting images or video.
For this issue, make the report specific: include your platform and game version, say whether you can hear teammates and transmit your own voice, and identify exactly which mute control is disabled. These details are practical additions to the information Ubisoft requests and make it clearer whether the report concerns mute-only behavior or chat availability more broadly.

- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
Temporary workaround: lower voice volume outside the mute control
One player reported using a headset’s separate voice-chat volume control to reduce teammate audio. This is an anecdotal stopgap, not a repair for the in-game mute option, and lowering or eliminating teammate audio also means losing callouts. It is not a reason to buy new hardware as a fix for this software or control symptom.
