The public PerfectRecomp/PerfectRecomp repository does not currently verify that a playable Perfect Dark: Recompiled release is available. Its project description names Perfect Dark, but the repository says it is currently a fork of BanjoRecomp, its README describes Banjo: Recompiled, and its Releases section is empty. Those conflicting signals matter: the Banjo-specific instructions on the page are not Perfect Dark setup instructions.
What is Perfect Dark: Recompiled?
PerfectRecomp/PerfectRecomp is a public repository whose description calls it a PC port of Perfect Dark. But its current contents do not establish a finished or playable Perfect Dark implementation: the repository labels itself “Repo is Currently just a Fork of BanjoRecomp,” and its README documents Banjo: Recompiled rather than Perfect Dark. The visible Releases section has no entries.

As a result, the repository’s name and description alone are not evidence that a Perfect Dark build can be downloaded or run. The page’s Banjo-specific technical details—including its game-copy instructions, platform information, requirements, and features—should not be treated as specifications for Perfect Dark: Recompiled.
Can you download or play it now?
The repository’s inspected Releases section is empty, so it does not provide a verified downloadable Perfect Dark release. The reviewed documentation also establishes no Perfect Dark-specific installation steps, supported ROM version, controls, or system requirements. There is therefore no documented basis for recommending a particular setup or claiming that the project is currently playable.

Does it require a Perfect Dark ROM?
The README includes the statement, “This repository and its releases do not contain game assets.” That is a statement about the repository documentation, not confirmation of a working Perfect Dark release or of which game files that project would accept.
Other Perfect Dark projects do not resolve that uncertainty. A separate decompilation repository describes building from a Perfect Dark ROM and lists several regional and beta variants; a different decompilation-based PC port documents its own ROM workflow and platform builds. Those are distinct projects, so their supported ROM versions, instructions, controls, or requirements cannot be attributed to Perfect Dark: Recompiled.

What to check before following setup instructions
Before treating the project as ready to use, look for Perfect Dark-specific documentation and a release published by the project itself. A credible setup guide should identify the actual build, supported game input, platform, and controls rather than relying on the Banjo: Recompiled README currently shown in the repository.
- Confirm that a release or build is explicitly for Perfect Dark, not Banjo: Recompiled.
- Check the project’s own documentation for a supported game version and installation procedure.
- Verify platform requirements and controls from Perfect Dark-specific documentation; the reviewed repository does not establish them.
How it differs from other ways to play Perfect Dark
Perfect Dark: Recompiled should not be conflated with the separate decompilation-based PC port or with the original Nintendo 64 game and other official releases. Each is a different route with its own availability, game-file requirements, platform support, and controls. The repository page does not provide enough Perfect Dark-specific information to compare those options reliably.
