In its May 8, 2026 earnings Q&A, Sony said no decisions had been made about the timing or pricing of its next-generation platforms. The 2027 date came from a claim attributed to an online leaker, not from a Sony launch announcement. Sony’s Q&A does not give a release year, date, price, specifications, or launch lineup.
Has Sony confirmed a PS6 release date?
No. In the May 8, 2026 Q&A for its FY2025 results, Sony said: “As for next-generation platforms, no decisions have been made regarding timing or pricing, and we plan to consider these matters while monitoring future conditions.” The statement addresses next-generation platforms generally; it does not announce a console specifically called PS6 or provide a launch window.
Sony’s investor-relations archive lists the May 8 earnings materials and Q&A. Sony had also published FY2026 Q1 materials, but the information available here does not establish whether those later materials changed its answer on next-generation timing. So the accurate conclusion is that Sony had made no timing or pricing decision in the cited May Q&A—not that a particular year is now confirmed or ruled out.
Where did the 2027 rumor come from?
A Tom’s Guide report published October 14, 2025 attributed the claim to NeoGaf user KeplerL2. The report quoted the leaker as saying “2027 isn’t just ‘on the table, it’s the plan unless any unexpected delays happen.’” That is a reported prediction, not a public commitment from Sony. The later Sony Q&A did not confirm that prediction.

Reddit discussion or repetition of a leak does not establish a release date either. The key distinction is the source: Sony’s official statement says no decision had been made as of May 8, 2026, while the 2027 claim is attributed reporting about an online leaker.
What the two claims actually establish
| Claim | Source and date | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| No next-generation timing or pricing decision had been made | Sony FY2025 Q4 Q&A, May 8, 2026 | Sony’s stated position in that Q&A; it does not give a launch year. |
| 2027 was reportedly the plan unless unexpected delays occurred | Tom’s Guide report attributing the claim to NeoGaf user KeplerL2, October 14, 2025 | An attributed leaker prediction, not a Sony-confirmed release date. |
Why Sony has not given a date
Sony said it expected memory prices to remain elevated and supply-demand conditions to stay tight through 2027. It described considering hardware-cost reductions, sales and go-to-market strategies, and business-model adjustments. Those are factors in its planning—not evidence that the next console will launch in, or be delayed beyond, 2027.

The same Q&A described PS5 as being in its adoption phase and reported 125 million monthly active users enjoying games on Sony’s platform at that time. That is a platform active-user figure, not a PS5 console sales count. It provides context for Sony’s current-platform business, but it does not reveal when a successor will launch.

There is no confirmed launch year to report from the official statement discussed here. Sony’s May 2026 answer leaves the timing open, and the 2027 rumor should be treated as unverified unless Sony announces a date or year itself. Any more specific prediction would go beyond what these statements establish.
