Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble is a Nintendo Switch game with two distinct attractions: a 200-stage rolling-platform campaign and competitive multiplayer. The campaign is the clearer reason to play; multiplayer adds options for groups, though its variety and performance deserve consideration. The 2024 reviews praised the familiar core while flagging different limitations, and SEGA later listed a frame-rate improvement in an update without publishing a measured result.
What is Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble?
Released for Nintendo Switch on June 25, 2024, Banana Rumble centers on Adventure Mode, a sequence of 200 stages playable solo or in co-op with up to four players. Nintendo’s product listing also specifies local multiplayer for up to four players and online play for up to 16; some configurations may require additional accessories. Nintendo’s listing is the source for those platform and player-count details.
SEGA describes the game as a return to rolling through obstacle-filled stages, with optional assist features and a new Spin Dash move. Its official game page lists more than 300 customization items and five online battle modes. Those advertised counts describe the product’s contents; they do not by themselves establish how much variety or lasting appeal each mode provides.
Is Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble worth it?
For players who mainly want a substantial set of rolling stages, the campaign is the strongest case for the game. TechRadar’s June 24, 2024 review praised the 200-level offering and described the game as a return to form. VGC’s review, published the same day, called it a welcome revival but judged it short of the series’ best. Both are launch-era critical assessments, not a substitute for deciding whether this style of precision movement suits you.

- Go bananas with your favorite bunch and drop into online multiplayer for up to 16 players or local multiplayer for up to 4 players!
- Slip into a wonderfully crafted story either locally or online in the all-new Adventure mode, where you will journey through 200 newly crafted stages either in 4-player coop or solo.
- Show off your style by customizing your character with over 300 fashionable items to choose from.
- Use the new Spin Dash technique to sprint past rivals or create new shortcuts to victory!
- Experience thrilling gameplay that is easy to pick up and play yet challenging and fulfilling to master.
SEGA’s Spin Dash is intended to help players accelerate past rivals or find shortcuts. That could add tactical choices, but the feature’s existence alone does not show that it improves stage design or competitive balance. Likewise, assist options may help players tackle obstacles, but SEGA’s description does not specify exactly how each option changes difficulty. Check the in-game settings if you want to know which aids suit your play style.
How does the campaign play solo and in co-op?
Adventure Mode is the most substantial part of the package by the publisher’s stated stage count: Nintendo and SEGA each list 200 stages. Nintendo says the campaign supports solo play or co-op with up to three other players, and SEGA likewise describes four-player co-op. For someone buying primarily for a shared campaign, that is a more direct feature match than the competitive modes.

- Brand new. UK Import PAL version. Game in English. UK Nintendo store account may be required for any online features.
SEGA advertises optional assists as a way for newcomers or players refining their technique to tackle obstacles. That is publisher positioning, not independent evidence that the game meets any particular accessibility standard. The useful practical distinction is that the game offers assistance options alongside the challenge of its stages; players should judge the available settings in the game itself.
Can you play Banana Rumble with friends?
Yes. Nintendo lists local play for up to four players and online play for up to 16. Adventure Mode supports up to four-player co-op, while SEGA lists five online battle modes. Nintendo notes that some play configurations may require additional accessories, but its listing does not specify a controller model. Check controller compatibility for your setup before buying extra hardware.

Online battle modes
SEGA names the five modes as Race, Goal Rush, Ba-Boom!, Banana Hunt, and Robot Smash. That gives online play several distinct formats on paper, but TechRadar’s June 24, 2024 review criticized the limited stage counts in some multiplayer modes. Treat that as TechRadar’s assessment of the launch-era offering, rather than a finding shared by every reviewer or a claim about later changes.
Local play
For households or groups sharing a Switch, local multiplayer supports up to four players according to Nintendo. The online maximum of 16 does not apply to local play. The Nintendo listing warns that additional accessories may be needed for some configurations, so the number of players alone does not guarantee that your current controller setup is sufficient.

What about performance on Switch?
Performance is the main technical qualification raised in the sampled reviews, but the available figures do not establish how the current patched game runs. VGC’s June 24, 2024 review said the Switch version did not maintain a solid 60 frames per second in both modes. That is a launch-era reviewer judgment, not a verified benchmark for the current version or for every Switch model.
SEGA’s update page lists version 2.20 and reports an improvement to Adventure Mode frame rate during online play, local multiplayer, and local communication. It gives no publication date in the captured listing and no quantified frame-rate result, so it supports saying that SEGA reported an improvement—not that performance was fully fixed. See SEGA’s update page and check the installed game version if performance is a deciding factor.

What do the customization and DLC figures mean?
SEGA’s game page advertises more than 300 customization items. Separately, SEGA’s June 25, 2024 launch announcement says the SEGA Pass includes 15 customization items. These are different counts for different offerings, not interchangeable totals; the launch announcement does not establish current pricing or availability. SEGA’s launch announcement provides the dated Pass figure. Nintendo’s listing links to downloadable content, but current prices, bundles, and regional availability are not established here.
Quick Recap
Who should consider it?
- Series fans: The recognizable rolling-stage formula and 200-stage campaign are the clearest fit.
- Players new to the series: Optional assists are available, though their precise effects should be assessed in the game rather than inferred from SEGA’s general description.
- Households seeking co-op: Adventure Mode supports up to four players, with local multiplayer also listed for up to four; confirm your accessory needs.
- Groups focused on competitive online play: There are five named battle modes and support for up to 16 online players, but TechRadar raised concerns about stage counts in some modes.
- Performance-sensitive players: Weigh VGC’s 2024 launch review against SEGA’s later but unquantified version 2.20 improvement; neither establishes a current frame-rate benchmark for your setup.
