Jagex did not cancel every Pride activity in 2025. Old School RuneScape discontinued its Pride mini-quest, while RuneScape brought back Tales of Pride without new content; player-organized Pride marches were still allowed. CEO Jon Bellamy later defended the decision, citing game continuity, player retention and a desire to keep the games as apolitical as possible.
What happened to RuneScape’s Pride events in 2025?
On April 25, 2025, Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy reportedly told staff that neither RuneScape nor Old School RuneScape would receive its usual new Pride Month content that year. The outcomes differed by game:
| Game or activity | Reported 2025 outcome |
|---|---|
| Old School RuneScape | The Pride mini-quest was discontinued. |
| RuneScape | Tales of Pride returned, but without new content. |
| Community-organized marches | Players were allowed to continue organizing them. |
The April staff message is described in June reporting rather than available here as a public primary document. Jagex’s public response, as reported by GameDeveloper, said it had paused work on new in-game Pride content for 2025, continued to support the LGBTQ+ community and was exploring broader ways to celebrate Pride.
Why did RuneScape cancel its Pride event?
In a September 2025 interview covered by GameDeveloper, Bellamy framed the choice as a business and operational priority: maintaining the games, preserving players and avoiding controversy he believed had become a greater risk. Those are his stated reasons, not independently measured evidence that Pride content threatened the business.

What did Jagex’s CEO say about future Pride events?
Bellamy stood by the 2025 decision in September, while leaving future choices conditional. “If there are tough decisions to be made next year, we’ll make them. If the world has changed a bit and the environment is different, we will react accordingly,” he said.
Jagex’s reported public response also said “our job is not to use the game as an outlet for our own views, but to craft worlds that serve our players, offering immersion, escape and meaning.” A spokesperson described the studio as “a strong supporter and ally of the LGBTQ+ community” while confirming the pause on new in-game Pride content for 2025.

Did RuneScape ban Pride activity?
No. The reported change concerned official in-game content, not every Pride-related activity. Community-organized marches were allowed to continue. Staff reportedly objected to the decision, said some content was complete or straightforward to implement, offered to volunteer outside work hours and sent an open letter calling for annual events and a resumption of 2025 development. These internal events were reported by outlets based on their sources; the underlying communications are not public documents in the material cited here.

The cited reporting does not establish Jagex’s 2026 Pride schedule. Bellamy said future decisions would depend on conditions at the time, so the 2025 decision should not be treated as proof that the same approach continued. Check Jagex’s current official announcements for this year’s plans.
