A Rune Arc activates the blessing of your equipped Great Rune in Elden Ring. First restore the Great Rune at its associated Divine Tower and equip it at a Site of Grace; then use a Rune Arc. The blessing lasts until you die, after which you need another Rune Arc to activate it again.
What does a Rune Arc do?
Its main purpose is to activate the benefit of the Great Rune you have equipped. The active Great Rune determines the blessing, so the Rune Arc itself does not choose a particular effect. How to activate a Great Rune with a Rune Arc
- Obtain a Great Rune. Great Runes must be restored before their blessings can be activated.
- Restore it at its associated Divine Tower. For example, Godrick’s Great Rune is restored at Limgrave’s Divine Tower.
- Equip it at a Site of Grace. Rest at the Site of Grace and select the Great Rune to equip.
- Use a Rune Arc. The equipped Great Rune’s blessing becomes active.
Equipping a restored Great Rune does not activate its blessing by itself; the Rune Arc is the activation step. Push Square’s guide describes the blessing as lasting until death.
What happens when you die or switch Great Runes?
Death ends the active blessing, and the Rune Arc used to activate it is consumed. Use another Rune Arc to regain the benefit. Eldenpedia’s item reference also says that switching the equipped Great Rune ends the effect until you use another Rune Arc; treat that as secondary-reference information rather than official confirmation.

How to get Rune Arcs
Bandai Namco’s multiplayer guide documents Rune Arcs as rewards for several multiplayer outcomes:
- As an invader, defeat the host to receive a Rune Arc.
- In cooperative play, Rune Arcs can be earned as rewards.
- As a hunter, defeat an invader to receive a Rune Arc.
The item reference also lists world pickups, a purchase from the Twin Maiden Husks, and a chance of a drop from rats. Those additional sources are community-reference claims; check their availability in your game rather than relying on an unverified location or drop-rate figure.
