SEGA’s new mainline Virtua Fighter is officially titled VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS and is slated to launch in 2027. The company has not yet announced platforms, an exact release date, or a price.
When is the new Virtua Fighter coming out?
SEGA announced the New VIRTUA FIGHTER Project on December 13, 2024, describing it as a completely new series entry. On June 8, 2026, the company revealed its official title, VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS, and said it is the next mainline game in the series, planned for release in 2027. SEGA has not given an exact day or month. SEGA’s announcement lists the release date as “coming in 2027.”
What platforms will VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS be on?
SEGA’s product information lists the platform as TBA. It does not give a region-specific platform lineup. The price is also TBA, and the announcement does not provide preorder details or confirm a physical edition. Those details remain unannounced in the cited official information.
What kind of game is it?
SEGA describes VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS as a fighting adventure that combines story and combat. Its narrative follows four protagonists whose histories and convictions intersect in Vilasapara, a fictional Southeast Asian metropolis with a walled city center, an entertainment district, and a resort district.

Story and setting
In SEGA’s fictional premise, the Arma Carta ended an era of bloodshed, leaving crime syndicates in a tenuous balance. President Bato promotes the underground Vila Fight Fest as a national sport, while martial artists face attacks attributed to a figure known as the Bakunawa Killer. These are elements of the game’s story, not real-world events.
Modes and combat
SEGA says the game will include a single-player story adventure with city exploration, side stories, quests, multi-opponent fights, and boss battles. A separate Battle Mode is described as supporting one-on-one matches both online and offline. The publisher also says the series’ fluid gameplay returns with more realism and strategic depth; those are SEGA’s descriptions, not an independent evaluation of the game.

SEGA credits RGG Studio with crafting Vilasapara. The listed narrative team includes worldbuilding supervisor David Hayter, lead writer Brad Kane, scenario director Tsuyoshi Furuta, and scenario writer Shinji Yamamoto. The announcement links a reveal trailer, a showcase featuring producer and creative director Riichiro Yamada and the development team, and a story trailer for Cielo.
What has SEGA shown so far?
SEGA said in August 2025 that it showed gameplay footage at EVO 2025 in Las Vegas, calling it a first look at the next game’s combat system. That confirms footage was shown, but does not establish that it represented final or near-final gameplay. The June 2026 announcement provides the title, release window, premise, and mode descriptions; it does not establish final game specifications.

Is Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage the new game?
No. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is a separate, already released title. SEGA announced its October 30, 2025 release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, and also listed Nintendo Switch 2 for a winter 2025 window in that announcement. Its features include crossplay, rollback netcode, a single-player World Stage mode, replay viewing, and customizable Training Mode conditions. Those details apply to World Stage, not to VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS.
SEGA also described a 30th Anniversary Edition of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage with a soundtrack, pre-production materials, costume content, and DLC. That edition is not identified as a standalone physical-media product or as connected to the upcoming game.
