Shadow was added to Sonic Dream Team on December 18, 2024, in the game’s version 1.6.1 update. The update made him playable through Tails’ Challenges before he could be unlocked for Adventure mode.
How Shadow became playable
SEGA’s December 18, 2024 announcement introduced Shadow through Tails’ Challenges. Players could take on special challenge levels, earn rewards, and unlock him for Adventure mode. Apple’s App Store version history identifies the Shadow character update as version 1.6.1 on the same date.
The update also brought Shadow’s Chaos Control and Chaos Shift abilities, a set of reward powers, new music, six Shadow-themed statues, and a reworked tutorial.
What Shadow content came later?
The December update was the start of Shadow’s content in the game, not the last addition. SEGA later announced three Shadow-only Adventure Acts, set in Scrambled Shores, Dream Factory, and Nightmare Maze. Their missions sent players through corrupted environments to destroy corruption nodes. A subsequent update added costumes and another Shadow-exclusive level in Ego City.

Where can you play Sonic Dream Team?
Sonic Dream Team is an Apple Arcade game, rather than a standalone paid Shadow expansion. SEGA lists support for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, and Mac; its Shadow announcement also lists Apple Vision Pro. See SEGA’s game page for the game’s platform information.
