Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteNo—SEGA did not remove every classic game from every online store. It ended new sales of selected games and collections on specific platforms after December 6, 2024. If you bought an affected title before the cutoff, SEGA says it remains in your library and can still be downloaded and played.
What SEGA actually removed from sale
SEGA’s notice concerned selected listings, not its entire classic-game catalog. The affected titles vary by storefront, and a game’s removal from one platform does not establish its status on another. SEGA’s support page, updated November 19, 2025, lists affected titles separately for Steam, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation: SEGA CLASSICS support FAQ.
SEGA announced that new purchases of the affected listings would end on December 6, 2024. Its FAQ gives the cutoff as 11:59 p.m. PST. The Steam notice was posted November 6, 2024; SEGA Japan published a separate notice about selected Xbox 360-compatible games on November 7, 2024.
Which SEGA games were affected?
The official lists differ by platform. These examples are not a complete inventory; consult the linked FAQ for the full platform-specific lists.

For the specific Xbox 360 notice published in Japan, SEGA named selected releases including Golden Axe Collection, Streets of Rage Collection, Monster World Collection, ToeJam & Earl Collection, Get Bass, Altered Beast, Shinobi, Virtua Fighter 2, NiGHTS into dreams…, Crazy Taxi, and Sonic the Fighters. That notice covers the titles and sales described there; it should not be read as a universal list for every Xbox storefront or region. See SEGA Japan’s Xbox 360 sales-ending notice.
Can you still play games you already bought?
Yes. SEGA says games purchased before the cutoff remain available in the owner’s library and can still be downloaded and played. The Steam announcement likewise says owners can download and play the games after sales end. The cutoff stopped new purchases of affected listings; it did not, according to SEGA’s notices, revoke existing purchases.

How to check whether a particular game is affected
- Identify the storefront. Check the platform where you want to buy or play the game: Steam, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or PlayStation.
- Match the exact listing. A collection and an individual release can have different status, even when they include related games.
- Check the region. SEGA’s notices include platform-specific and, in the Xbox 360 case, Japan-specific information. They do not establish live purchase status for every regional storefront.
- Separate ownership from new sales. If you already bought the affected listing, SEGA says it remains in your library. If you want to buy it now, check the relevant store page; the notices do not confirm current availability of every title in every region.
What about Nintendo Switch Online?
SEGA’s FAQ says select individual classic games remain playable to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. That is a statement about access through a subscription catalog, not a claim that the delisted paid edition is still available to buy. Check Nintendo’s current catalog and your subscription details for the games available to you.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why did SEGA delist the games?
SEGA’s published notices do not give a reason. They establish which selected listings were affected and the announced sales cutoff, but do not support attributing the decision to licensing, technical issues, commercial strategy, or a replacement collection.
