Soul Hackers 2 is a stylish, character-focused Atlus RPG with demon collection, turn-based combat and an apocalypse-bound story. Reviews lean positive, but not unanimously: critics tend to praise its cast, music and combat while criticizing repetitive dungeons and a familiar feel. It is most appealing if those strengths matter more to you than exploration variety.

What reviewers like
Characters and story
Critics commonly point to the cast and narrative as reasons to keep playing. Checkpoint Gaming called it “one of Atlus’ best games to date” in its August 28, 2022 review, praising the story and suggesting the streamlined approach to familiar Atlus play could be approachable to more players. That is one outlet’s assessment, not a universal verdict.
Combat, music and presentation
The Mako Reactor’s August 18, 2022 PS5 review described the game as “a traditional Atlus JRPG with a super-stylish coat of paint and some welcome quality of life improvements,” and praised its music, characters, protagonist and core loop. The game’s appeal is rooted in that combination of a striking cyberpunk look and familiar RPG systems rather than a radical reinvention.

What reviewers criticize
Repetitive dungeon exploration
The clearest recurring reservation is that dungeon environments and layouts can feel repetitive, with frequent encounters adding to the grind. IGN Italia described it as a “35/40 hours adventure” with an engaging cast and combat, but said the dungeon crawler grows repetitive and does not hold attention throughout. That runtime is the outlet’s estimate, not a guaranteed playtime.
A familiar identity
Some reviewers found that the game draws heavily on established Atlus conventions without making enough of its own identity. WellPlayed’s August 23, 2022 PS5 review called it a solid JRPG with plenty to like, but said it did not feel as unique or creative as its source material might suggest. Other critics regard the streamlined familiarity as an advantage, so this comes down partly to whether you want a recognizable Atlus formula or something more distinctive.

Is Soul Hackers 2 worth playing?
It is a good fit if you enjoy character-led RPG stories, demon collecting and fusion, turn-based battles, and strong visual and musical style. It is a riskier choice if varied dungeon design is essential or you are looking for a game that departs sharply from familiar Atlus mechanics. The review picture is best described as mixed-to-positive: there is plenty to like, but the most common criticism concerns the repeated feel of exploration.
How does it compare to Persona?
The useful comparison is about priorities, not a direct verdict against a particular Persona game. Soul Hackers 2 shares familiar Atlus RPG appeal—an ensemble cast, narrative focus and turn-based combat—but its demon collection and fusion are central to its play. Reviewers praise its characters and story, while the recurring complaint is dungeon repetition. If you value cast and combat more than exploration variety, its approach may work for you; the available reviews do not establish a controlled head-to-head comparison with Persona 5.
