Slay the Spire 2 is already available on Steam in Early Access. The 2025 date in the original reveal was an early target: Mega Crit later moved the launch to March 2026, then released the game on March 5, 2026. It is not yet a finished 1.0 release.

When did Slay the Spire 2 come out?

Mega Crit first announced Slay the Spire 2 on April 15, 2024, with a 2025 Steam Early Access target. On September 11, 2025, the studio pushed the launch to March 2026, saying, “We need some more time.” The game became available in Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026; Mega Crit’s FAQ lists the launch time as 10 a.m. Pacific Time.

September 11, 2025 Early Access moved to March 2026 to allow more development and polish. Mega Crit announcement archive.
March 5, 2026 Early Access launched on Steam. Mega Crit announcement archive.

There is no confirmed date for the full 1.0 release. The current release status is Steam Early Access, not a completed launch.

What can you play in Early Access?

The sequel keeps the roguelike deckbuilding climb while adding new and returning characters, character-specific cards, relics, enemies, environments, events and lore. Steam lists five playable characters, including two new ones. Mega Crit also describes mechanics such as enchantments, afflictions, Ancients and alternate acts; these are developer descriptions of the game’s content, not a promise that every planned feature is final.

Co-op is a major addition: up to four players can climb together, with multiplayer-specific cards and team synergies. Online co-op is limited to Steam friends, however, and there is no matchmaking system. If you want to join random players through an in-game party finder, that option is not listed by Mega Crit.

Which platforms support Slay the Spire 2?

During Early Access, Mega Crit lists Windows, macOS and Linux through Steam, and says the game is compatible with Steam Deck. Console and mobile versions are not available as part of the current release. Mega Crit says it hopes to bring the game to more platforms and that console and mobile versions are likely to follow Early Access, but it has not announced dates.

Should you buy it during Early Access or wait?

That depends on whether you want to play an evolving version or would rather wait for a finished game. Mega Crit says it will use Early Access to gather feedback, balance content, add quality-of-life features and address technical issues. Steam and the studio both caution that the game is unfinished and may change.

Buy during Early Access if… Wait if…
You want to play the available content now and follow development as it changes. You prefer to play only after the full release and its planned content are complete.
You are comfortable with ongoing balance changes, fixes and additions. You want a stable, final version with its complete ending and planned modes.
You want to play online co-op with Steam friends. You need matchmaking or want to play on console or mobile now.

Mega Crit has not set an end date for Early Access. Its FAQ says the period will last “Until the game feels great!” and gives roughly one to two years as a possible range, not a release commitment. The studio points to the original Slay the Spire taking about a year and a half despite an initial estimate of about a year.

Is there a physical copy of Slay the Spire 2?

The current information establishes a Steam Early Access release, not a physical edition of Slay the Spire 2. Mega Crit’s merchandise page features the Slay the Spire board game by Contention Games, which is a tabletop adaptation of the franchise—not a physical copy of the sequel.
