Black Salt Games and Story Kitchen announced a live-action feature adaptation of DREDGE on April 9, 2024. The project has since been described as being in development, but the available updates do not establish a release date, cast, director, distributor, or production start.
What is the DREDGE film adaptation?
It is an announced live-action feature film based on DREDGE, the single-player fishing adventure developed by Black Salt Games. The game has players sell their catches, upgrade a boat, explore a mysterious archipelago, and dredge the depths for secrets. Its ordinary fishing loop sits alongside an increasingly unsettling undercurrent. The game’s official site describes its premise and links to official stores.

Black Salt Games announced the film collaboration with production company Story Kitchen on April 9, 2024. The announcement is covered by Game Informer. This is an adaptation announcement, not news that the movie has been filmed or released.
How has the film been described?
The announcement’s pitch was: “Think The Sixth Sense on the water. A grounded atmospheric cosmic horror blend of HP Lovecraft and Ernest Hemingway.” That is promotional framing, not a confirmed plot summary, completed screenplay description, or indication that the film adapts either author’s work.

In the same announcement, Black Salt Games said it was excited to bring the world it created to live action. Story Kitchen described the game as an eerie, rich story that had the company “completely hooked.” Both statements were issued on behalf of the organizations, rather than attributed to individually named speakers.
What stage is the project at?
Kehan Miller’s DREDGE feature-film page describes him as guiding development and negotiations. It also says early concept design work with Wētā Workshop and script development are underway, with creative talent not yet announced on that page. These are details from Miller’s project page, not a separate joint announcement from Black Salt Games and Story Kitchen.

A TechRadar feature published August 1, 2026 includes DREDGE among Story Kitchen’s announced adaptations, but the reviewed passage gives no release or production specifics. It does not confirm that filming has begun or that the film has a distributor.

Those are game details; they do not indicate where the film will be distributed or watched.
