Fixing FIFA 19 depends on the symptom: crashes and launch failures may respond to local software troubleshooting, but a network setting cannot restore an online service EA has retired. Start with the steps for your platform below, and check the game’s service status before troubleshooting an online mode.
Start by identifying the problem
Separate a local problem from an unavailable online feature. If FIFA 19 crashes, freezes, or will not launch, begin with your device and installation. If an online mode will not connect, check whether that service is still supported before changing network settings.

- Crash, freeze, or launch failure: try updates, a restart, and platform-appropriate installation checks.
- Connection error: check EA and platform service status, then confirm the game’s online service has not been retired.
- Lag or input delay: distinguish a network problem from local performance or controller responsiveness; the symptom alone does not identify the cause.
FIFA 19 crashes, freezes, or will not launch
Work through the low-risk steps first. EA’s general troubleshooting guidance is not a FIFA 19-specific error-code guide, and these suggestions are not guaranteed fixes. EA’s PC troubleshooting guidance and its platform-specific support pages describe the following options.
On PC
- Close background applications. They can interfere with a game or compete for system resources.
- Try a clean boot. This starts Windows with a reduced set of background tasks to help identify software conflicts. Follow EA’s clean-boot instructions for your Windows version, then restore normal startup after testing.
- Repair the installation in the EA app. Open Library, select FIFA 19, choose Manage, then Repair. Let the check finish before launching the game again.
- Test a frame-rate cap or V-Sync. The available settings vary by game and graphics hardware. If FIFA 19 does not expose the relevant option, use the graphics-card manufacturer’s instructions rather than assuming one setting path applies to every PC.
- Reinstall only if the earlier steps fail. EA suggests reinstalling the game and, if needed, the EA app. Reinstallation takes longer and should not be the first step.
On PlayStation
- Install the latest available PlayStation system software.
- Disconnect attached USB devices, then restart the console and test the game.
- Power-cycle the console using the platform’s support instructions.
- Restore the game license using the console’s account or license settings.
- If the problem persists, reinstall FIFA 19.
Menu names can differ by PlayStation model and system-software version; use the current PlayStation support instructions for your console.

On Xbox
- Install the latest available console system update.
- Disconnect attached USB devices, then restart the console and test FIFA 19.
- Power-cycle the console using the Xbox support instructions.
- If the issue continues, reinstall the game. Xbox support also provides console-specific network and saved-data troubleshooting; use those steps only when they match the problem you are seeing.
These steps address local software or device problems. They cannot bring back a retired online service.
FIFA 19 cannot connect online, or a mode is unavailable
Check availability before resetting a router or changing DNS. EA’s general connection guidance warns: “If you’re playing an older game, its online servers may be shut down.” See EA’s connection troubleshooting guidance and EA’s service updates. Also check the relevant platform’s service status, your account status, and whether your platform requires an online-play subscription for the activity you are trying to use.

Know which FIFA 19 service retirement applies
EA’s service-update list records FIFA 19 service retirements by platform. It separately records an earlier retirement of FUT Champions mode, so do not treat those notices as interchangeable.

These are EA’s recorded dates, not a guarantee that every copy, mode, or platform has identical availability now. Check the service-update page for the platform and feature you mean. If the service is retired, restarting a router or trying a different DNS will not restore it. If the service is still available and your connection is the issue, EA suggests restarting the router and, in some cases, trying a different DNS; follow your router or platform provider’s instructions before changing network settings.

FIFA 19 feels laggy or unresponsive
“Lag” can describe online delay, a local performance slowdown, or controller input delay. Those are different problems, and a complaint alone does not establish which one is responsible. First check whether the issue occurs only in online play or also in offline modes; then use the relevant connection or local performance steps above.
EA published a responsiveness update in July 2019 describing network infrastructure changes for FUT Champions, FUT Division Rivals, FUT Online Draft, Pro Clubs, and Co-Op Seasons on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It described European network and data-center configuration changes, along with hardware changes at some global server locations. EA said, “These changes, that we believe will improve gameplay responsiveness for some players, have been driven by the data and feedback we have been receiving from players with our specialized telemetry tool (detailed here) enabled, which we have continued to roll out to a larger pool of players.” That is historical context, not a diagnosis of present-day lag or proof that a particular player’s input delay has the same cause.

When to stop troubleshooting
- If FIFA 19 fails locally, continue with the steps for your platform and escalate through the platform or EA support channel if the problem remains.
- If an online mode is unavailable, confirm its status for your platform before repeating network changes.
- If a mode is listed as retired by EA, local repairs, reinstalling, router restarts, and DNS changes cannot restore its retired service.
