Check your Mac before buying
Mac compatibility is title-specific. A game appearing in a recommendation list does not prove that its current release supports your processor, macOS version or region. TechBloat advises checking the processor in About This Mac, the installed macOS version and the store’s listing for macOS support. Its general suggestion of macOS Sonoma 14 or newer is not a substitute for a game’s own minimum requirements.

- Identify your Mac: Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. Note the processor or chip and the macOS version.
- Open the exact store listing: Confirm it explicitly supports macOS and check the listed minimum system requirements. If the game is sold through more than one storefront, check the one you plan to use.
- Confirm edition and availability: Make sure the listing is for the edition you want and that it is currently available in your region. Catalogs and platform support can change.

Apple silicon, Intel Macs and performance
TechBloat favors native Apple silicon support in its stated selection criteria, but its list does not establish that every pick has a native build or runs on every M-series Mac. The article also notes that graphics performance varies by GPU tier. Treat its M1/M2/M3 and Intel references as guidance to investigate, not as blanket compatibility claims; the decisive check is the current requirement for the exact game and your Mac.
Apple describes Game Mode on Apple silicon Macs as prioritizing CPU and GPU resources for a game and reducing background task use. That platform feature does not establish a particular frame rate or guarantee smooth performance for every title. Apple’s Gaming on Mac—Better Than Ever page also describes controller features including rumble, custom mapping and screen recording.

Do you need a controller?
No. Keyboard and mouse may suit many games, while action games can feel more natural with a gamepad. Apple says, “Most Bluetooth and wireless console controllers work with Mac out of the box,” but individual game support varies. Check both the Mac’s controller compatibility and the game’s input options before choosing a Mac-compatible Bluetooth game controller.
Apple also describes audio features for recent AirPods on macOS Sequoia in compatible games. These are platform-level features, not a promise that a particular game supports every accessory or feature.

Where to find Mac games
Check the storefront you intend to use rather than relying on a general list: the Mac App Store, Apple Arcade and third-party stores such as Steam can have different listings and availability. Apple’s macOS Tahoe feature document describes a Games app and library, faster Mac App Store game installs, and Apple Arcade access to “over 200 award-winning games with no ads or in-app purchases” (Apple, 2025).
