No. 4A Games says it did not rebrand as Reburn: 4A Games remains the studio making Metro, while Reburn is the name adopted by a separate team formerly known as 4A Games Ukraine. That team went on to develop La Quimera. 4A announced METRO 2039 in 2026 and reported a February 4, 2027 release date.
Did 4A Games become Reburn?
No. In a February 28, 2025 studio update, 4A Games said, “The 4A Games you know and love have not changed, and we are not rebranding.” The statement distinguishes 4A Games Limited, the company behind Metro, from the separate Ukrainian operation that had used the name 4A Games Ukraine and later adopted the name Reburn. 4A Games Studio Update

- The teams’ work diverged after Metro Exodus. After the game and its DLC were released, 4A Games Limited says it created another Kyiv studio and welcomed roughly 50 colleagues into it. The remaining 4A Games Ukraine team pursued La Quimera as a separate entity and later renamed itself Reburn.
- Reburn introduced its own game. The February 2025 reveal of La Quimera prompted confusion about whether the Metro developer had changed names. 4A’s clarification said it had not.
Who is developing Metro 2039, and what is Reburn making?
4A Games identifies its own team as the Metro developer. In February 2025, it said it was working on the next Metro with Dmitry Glukhovsky and developing another, then-unannounced intellectual property. 4A describes Reburn as the separate entity formerly called 4A Games Ukraine, pursuing La Quimera. The statements cited here do not establish that Reburn owns Metro or is developing a Metro game; claims to that effect should not be inferred from the teams’ earlier shared name or collaboration.

What is the current status of METRO 2039?
4A’s April 16, 2026 announcement introduced METRO 2039 as the next chapter in the series. The studio said Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine had shaped how it wanted to tell the game’s story, describing themes of silence, tyranny, and freedom. In a September 4, 2026 Gamescom recap, 4A reported that the game would launch on February 4, 2027. The studio also said it showed gameplay and the Collector’s Edition at Gamescom, where more than 5,000 visitors tried the demo and more than 150 media representatives and content creators shared hands-on impressions. - Both groups had a connection to Metro Exodus. 4A says the Ukrainian colleagues worked on the game through an outsourcing relationship led by 4A Games Limited.
- The later Kyiv studio was also part of 4A’s account. 4A Games Limited says it formed another Kyiv studio after Metro Exodus and welcomed roughly 50 colleagues into it.
- Reburn’s reveal arrived with a new game announcement. Early coverage described the change as a rebrand before 4A publicly clarified that its Metro team had not changed identity.
4A’s reported staffing figures refer to its own workforce, not Reburn’s. In February 2025, it estimated that roughly 150 of more than 200 team members were in Ukraine. In March 2025, it reported more than 200 team members across Kyiv and Sliema, including 150 developers in Kyiv. Both counts are company-reported snapshots, not independent headcounts.
