1. It is free-to-play, with cross-platform play
The October 2024 launch announcement describes Throne and Liberty as free-to-play and lists PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It also says the game supports cross-platform play, meaning players on those platforms can play together. Check the official launch announcement and current regional store listings for availability and platform conditions, which can change.

2. You build a combat role with two weapons, not a fixed class
Instead of selecting a permanent class, you equip two weapons and combine their capabilities. The official gameplay overview frames combat roles around weapon choice, with weapon mastery nodes and skill changes shaping how a character develops. This gives players room to adapt their role, but it does not establish that every combination is equally strong or equally suited to every activity.
Why experimentation is part of the design
In a pre-launch interview, a member of the development team described the goal as letting players “actively try new things without such constraints.” That is design intent, not a guarantee that switching weapons or changing a build is always free or unchanged in the current game. 3. There is more to do than follow quests
The launch announcement lists dynamic events, co-op dungeons, bosses, guild activities, large-scale PvP, fishing and cooking alongside exploration. That mix supports several ways to play: cooperative PvE for players who prefer dungeons and bosses, guild and group systems for social play, and PvP for competition. The official materials describe solo exploration as well as guild-focused activities, but do not establish that every activity can be completed solo.
4. Movement and the environment affect how the world feels
Creature transformations provide a way to travel through the world. The game’s official materials also describe changing weather that can unlock content or affect weapon abilities, and day/night cycles with different threats. These systems make traversal and timing part of the experience, rather than treating the world only as a backdrop for combat. The official gameplay page outlines these features.
5. The current major expansion is The Frozen Divide: Nix
Official materials describe The Frozen Divide: Nix as adding the Nix region, the Gauntlets weapon, new co-op dungeons and level 60 progression, alongside stronger gear and open-world exploration. The expansion page advertised a June 25, 2026 launch. Those additions describe the expansion’s announced content, not a guarantee that every player must reach level 60 or own a separate paid product to access it; check the official Nix page for current access details.
6. Progression and combat balance keep changing
Throne and Liberty is a live-service game, so specific build and farming advice can become outdated. The official October 2026 news listing includes update 4.15.0 and an October Resistance Report covering progression, farming, combat stats, weapon rebalancing and other improvements. Before committing to a detailed build or farming route, check the latest official news and updates. The official material cited here does not establish a current best weapon combination or endgame meta.
7. Western service operations are scheduled to move to NC
Amazon Game Studios has announced that Western publishing responsibilities and service operations will transition to NC, operating through FirstSpark Games. The transition FAQ sets November 10, 2026 as the start of transition maintenance; it says the exact start time and duration will be announced closer to the date. Because the schedule and instructions may be updated, verify the official transition FAQ before acting.
Dates and account-data choices
- October 26, 2026: The FAQ schedules suspension of cash-shop product sales, including Lucent packs and Character Boost, from this date until the transition is complete. It says already-owned currency and items are unaffected and will transfer.
- October 30, 2026: This is the stated deadline to opt out of data transfer. Opting out means characters, progression and inventory will not carry over; a player who later plays under NC would start fresh.
- No action during the opt-out period: The FAQ says account data transfers by default. After the transition, players must accept NC’s Terms and Policies and complete any required activation steps.
- November 10, 2026: Transition maintenance is scheduled to begin. The FAQ does not yet give its exact start time or duration.
8. Cross-play and cross-progression are different
The transition FAQ says Steam, PlayStation and Xbox cross-play will remain as before, so players can continue playing together across platforms. Cross-progression—sharing advancement between platforms—is narrower: the FAQ specifies it between Steam and NC’s PURPLE platform, while PlayStation and Xbox progression remain independent. Do not assume that playing together means a character’s progress transfers between every platform.
9. Existing players have platform-specific transition steps
The FAQ says players retain their platform accounts, and all three platform versions will receive a new update to download. Xbox players will also need to install NC’s new app. After the move, players must accept NC’s terms and complete any required activation steps; consult the transition FAQ for the latest instructions before the maintenance window.
