NYT Connections answers for August 17, 2025

The sixteen tiles in puzzle #798 were ACCESSIBLE, ASSEMBLY, CLOSE, ENVELOPE, EXIT, HANDY, NAME, NEARBY, OPEN, PETITION, PRESS, PUSH, SPEECH, STAMP, WELCOME, and ADDRESS. They form these four groups:

Category Words
Conveniently located ACCESSIBLE, CLOSE, HANDY, NEARBY
Needs for sending a letter ADDRESS, ENVELOPE, NAME, STAMP
Words on a door EXIT, OPEN, PUSH, WELCOME
First Amendment freedoms ASSEMBLY, PETITION, PRESS, SPEECH

These groupings are reported by Parade’s August 17, 2025 answer page and corroborated by a second dated puzzle-answer page. The phrase “Words on a door” is the category; “closed” is a hint pointing toward the door-sign idea.

How Connections works

Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four sets of four based on a shared connection. The groups are color-coded by difficulty, from yellow (easiest) to purple (trickiest). Some words may appear to fit more than one category, but each puzzle has one solution, according to the NYT Help Center.

Where to play and find older puzzles

The NYT Help Center lists the Connections website, the NYT Games app, NYTimes.com/The Athletic, and the News app as ways to play. A new puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. Its archive reaches back to June 12, 2023, but archived games are available only to All Access and Games subscribers. Archived games count toward some statistics, but not streaks. Access and subscription details can change, so check the Help Center for the current terms.
