- Yellow: Think about different denim styles.
- Green: These are kinds of fiction you might find on library shelves.
- Blue: Ernest is the key; look for words found in his book titles.
- Purple: Add the same word after each term to name a kind of glassware.

Connections answers for June 23
Here are the complete groups for puzzle #743:
- Yellow — KINDS OF JEANS: BOYFRIEND, FLARE, MOM, SKINNY.
- Green — FICTION CATEGORIES: HISTORICAL, LITERARY, SPECULATIVE, YOUNG ADULT.
- Blue — WORDS IN HEMINGWAY TITLES: BELL, FAREWELL, OLD MAN, SUN.
- Purple — ___ GLASS GLASSWARE: COCKTAIL, COLLINS, OLD FASHIONED, SHOT.
Why the groups are easy to mix up
OLD FASHIONED and COLLINS may look like cocktail names, but they belong with COCKTAIL and SHOT as terms completed by “glass.” In the jeans group, FLARE and SKINNY can initially suggest clothing more broadly; the full set is BOYFRIEND, FLARE, MOM, and SKINNY. TechRadar’s guide describes that misdirection as part of its writer’s own solve, not as a universal reaction.

How Connections hints and mistakes work
Connections presents 16 words to sort into four groups of four. The difficulty colors progress from yellow to green to blue to purple. Correct groups are revealed and removed from the board, while four incorrect guesses end the puzzle. That makes a gradual hint ladder useful: try the broad clues first, then reveal category labels, and check the full word sets only when you are ready.
