Hints for the October 2 Connections groups
Try these clues before looking at the answers:
- Yellow: Think of cues you might give a dog.
- Green: These words can mean deserved, merited, or warranted.
- Blue: These words describe where something has been put or how it is positioned.
- Purple: Each is the title of an animated feature associated with a Best Animated Feature Oscar win.
The four Connections answers
The board’s 16 words are STAY, UP, SET, FLOW, DOWN, PUT, JUST, RIGHT, DUE, LEFT, COME, BRAVE, PLACED, HEEL, FROZEN, and FAIR.
| Color | Category | Words |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | DOG COMMANDS | COME, DOWN, HEEL, STAY |
| Green | DESERVED | DUE, FAIR, JUST, RIGHT |
| Blue | SITUATED | LEFT, PLACED, PUT, SET |
| Purple | BEST ANIMATED FEATURE OSCAR WINNERS | BRAVE, FLOW, FROZEN, UP |
Why the tricky words fit
Directions are a tempting false group
UP, DOWN, LEFT, and RIGHT look like a natural set of directions, but only LEFT belongs in the SITUATED group. DOWN is a dog command, while UP is an animated-film title.
Read HEEL as a cue
HEEL can suggest a body part or footwear, but it belongs with COME, DOWN, and STAY as a dog command.
#1 Best Overall
FROZEN is a film title here
FROZEN may seem to describe something fixed in place, yet this board uses it as one of the animated-feature titles. The other three are BRAVE, FLOW, and UP.
