Tips for Fighting Enemies in R.E.P.O.: When to Engage and How to Coordinate

Fighting is optional when a safe route to extraction remains. Here’s how to weigh the risk, coordinate with teammates, and treat weapons as situational resources.

In R.E.P.O., fighting is a choice—not the objective. If your team can safely keep moving toward extraction without engaging a monster, avoiding the fight is usually the lower-risk option. When an encounter threatens a teammate or the loot, communicate, make space, and use any weapons or upgrades your team has bought.

Decide whether the fight protects the extraction run

The game centers on finding and extracting valuable objects in dangerous environments; clearing every monster is not the stated goal. Its official Steam description also encourages players to know when to stay quiet. A third-party beginner guide likewise recommends avoiding fights that can be avoided, though that is general advice—not a guarantee that every enemy can be evaded in the same way.

Before engaging, ask whether the monster is actually blocking the route, threatening a teammate carrying loot, or otherwise making the extraction attempt less safe. If there is a safe way to continue, taking it avoids adding combat risk for no clear benefit. If the threat is making progress unsafe, coordinate before anyone commits.

Coordinate with teammates before escalating

R.E.P.O. supports online co-op for up to six players and includes proximity voice chat. Use it to share what you see and agree on a response: for example, one player can watch the threat while another creates space or handles the loot. These are suggested team roles, not built-in mechanics or official rules.

R.E.C.O.N. Mobile Game
  • An online co-op horror game with up to 6 players. Locate valuable, fully physics-based objects and handle them with care as you retrieve and extract to satisfy your creator's desires.
  • R.E.C.O.N. is an online co-op horror game featuring physics, proximity voice chat and scary monsters. You and up to 5 friends can venture into terrifying environments to extract valuable objects using your physics-based grabbing tool!
  • Call out the threat and its position as clearly as you can.
  • Agree whether the team is disengaging, protecting a teammate, or making room to continue.
  • Keep the plan simple enough that everyone can act without competing instructions.

In solo play, you cannot delegate or call out to nearby teammates, so be especially cautious about choosing an engagement when a safe route onward is available.

Use weapons and upgrades as resources, not guaranteed counters

The official Steam listing says players can spend SURPLUS on weapons and robotic enhancements. It does not provide current prices, damage values, enemy matchups, or a best purchase for combat. Treat equipment as a resource your team has chosen to bring into a run—not as proof that a particular monster will be easy to defeat.

There is no verified weapon ranking or enemy-by-enemy counter chart established here. Avoid relying on precise claims about enemy health, damage, stun duration, or which weapon defeats a named enemy fastest unless you have a current source that directly confirms the detail for your game version.

How to think about common encounter situations

Situation Practical response
A safe route to extraction remains open Prefer continuing without a fight; engaging does not serve the extraction objective by itself.
A monster is putting a teammate or carried loot at risk Tell the team what is happening, agree on a response, and use available equipment if the team chooses to engage.
Your team has no weapons or upgrades ready Do not assume an unarmed fight is necessary. Reassess whether you can safely disengage or take another route.
You are playing with others nearby Use proximity voice chat to coordinate rather than having players act on conflicting assumptions.

Why exact combat advice needs a current source

Steam’s listing surfaced a v0.4.0 Cosmetic Update dated May 7, 2026, but that update listing does not document combat balance changes. It therefore cannot establish whether enemy behavior, weapon effects, or combat values changed. The available official information confirms that weapons and upgrades exist; it does not settle exact tactics for individual enemies.
