The Sims 3 DLCs Not Showing Up? How to Find Missing Packs and Content

Find out whether a missing Sims 3 pack is an account, installation, launcher, Store download, or custom-content issue—and follow the right check for each.

If The Sims 3 DLCs are not showing up, first check exactly where they are missing: the EA app, the Sims 3 launcher, the Store download flow, or in the game. Those are different checkpoints. A pack absent from the EA app Library, for example, may still be listed under the game’s add-ons.

Start with the screen where the content is missing

Identify both the type of content and the place you expected to see it. Expansion and stuff packs, Store worlds, and custom content can follow different ownership, registration, and installation routes.

What is missing? First place to check What this helps distinguish
Expansion or stuff pack EA app > Library > The Sims 3 > Manage add-ons; then the launcher’s Expansions & Stuff area Whether the pack is attached to your account, installed, or detected by the launcher.
Store world TheSims3.com code redemption and Purchase History Whether the world needs a separate redemption or launcher download.
Store or custom content The launcher’s Downloads or Installed Content areas, then the game Whether content has downloaded and installed, or custom content is affecting the game.
An add-on is absent from the EA app Check the EA account, purchase or product-code redemption, and any subscription access Whether the issue is account entitlement rather than a local installation problem.

Check whether the EA app recognizes your pack

Sign in to the EA app with the account used to buy or redeem the content. Open Library, open the menu on The Sims 3 tile, and select Manage add-ons. EA explains that add-ons are viewed there; the Library itself lists full games, so a pack missing from the Library does not by itself show that you do not own it. EA’s guide to managing games and add-ons describes this distinction.

If the pack is not under Manage add-ons, check whether you are signed into a different EA account from the one used for purchase or code redemption. If you bought a code from a retailer, confirm it was redeemed. If access came through a subscription, verify that the subscription is active. These are entitlement checks; reinstalling the game will not attach a purchase to the wrong account.

Install packs after the base game

EA’s installation guidance is explicit: “Install The Sims 3 base game before installing any Expansion Packs, Stuff Packs, Worlds, or content from The Sims 3 store.” EA’s Sims 3 installation guide says digital packs should install automatically after purchase. Packs bought on disc need to be registered through the EA app or TheSims3.com.

For PC installations from disc, keep the platform distinction in mind: EA says disk play does not update beyond version 1.67 and recommends the EA app for the latest version. Its disc instructions also say to install packs in release order and use the disc for the latest installed expansion or stuff pack to launch a disk-based installation. Those details apply to the disc route; they do not establish that a version difference caused a particular missing-content problem. See EA’s installation instructions.

If the EA app lists the pack but the launcher does not

Open the Sims 3 launcher and check Expansions & Stuff. If the EA app identifies a pack as installed but it is absent from this launcher area, the problem is launcher detection rather than an unowned add-on.

An older EA Forum post describes a community workaround for a mismatch in an Origin-era installation. It is not current official EA app guidance, and replies report mixed results, so do not treat it as a guaranteed fix. If the pack remains listed in Manage add-ons but cannot be installed or detected after the official installation steps, contact EA Help and provide your EA account, operating system, installation source, and the exact app or launcher screen where it disappears. The community post is available at EA Forums: expansion packs not showing up in launcher.

Download Store worlds through their own route

Store worlds do not always follow the same flow as an expansion pack. EA says a world bought through the EA app may involve a redemption code sent by email for TheSims3.com. Worlds can also be downloaded from the site’s Purchase History, which opens the Sims 3 launcher to start the download. Check the code and Purchase History route if a world is missing; seeing no expansion-pack entry in the launcher is not the right test for a Store world. See EA’s Sims 3 Store guidance.

Use custom-content troubleshooting only for custom-content symptoms

If the game loads incorrectly or installed custom content is absent in-game, EA recommends disabling custom content in the launcher and trying again. If the behavior changes, re-enable items individually to identify the item associated with the problem. This can isolate custom-content conflicts; it cannot repair a missing purchase entitlement. Follow EA’s custom-content troubleshooting steps.

Apply the launcher repair only to its specific error

If you see the incompatible-version launcher error after uninstalling a pack, EA says a leftover Version.tag file may be involved. For PC, delete it from Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3; the game recreates the file when launched. EA documents this for that error at its Sims 3 version-mismatch help page. It is not a general fix for every missing pack or in-game item.

Refresh the EA app if its information appears stale

If the EA app is not updating its display, EA recommends clearing the app cache, restarting the app, and, if needed, signing out and back in. Use the EA app cache-clearing instructions. Refreshing the app can address stale app information, but it does not resolve an ownership problem on another account.
