These are official troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes; a network error does not by itself prove your internet connection is broken.
1. Confirm the device has free storage
Check available space on your Nintendo Switch or smartphone. Pokémon UNITE Support includes sufficient free space among its first checks for network errors and loading problems. If storage is nearly full, free space before trying more disruptive steps. Pokémon UNITE Support: Network error troubleshooting.
2. Test the connection, then try again later
Pokémon UNITE Support says to “Ensure you are playing on a stable connection.” If the game still will not load, try a different connection source or retry at another time of day. The support page does not identify one specific cause for the error, so a connection message is not proof that your home internet is at fault. Official network-error troubleshooting.
3. Restart your Switch or smartphone
Close out of the failed attempt and restart the device, then launch Pokémon UNITE again. This is one of the official support article’s suggested checks for Switch and smartphone versions.

4. Clear Pokémon UNITE’s in-game cache
Use the option on the game’s title screen. Follow the prompts carefully and choose the cache-clearing option, not an option that deletes other data.
Nintendo Switch
- Open Pokémon UNITE and wait for the title screen.
- Press ZR.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to clear the cache.
Smartphone
- Open Pokémon UNITE and wait for the title screen.
- Select the third icon from the top.
- Follow the prompts to clear the application cache.

5. If you play on Switch, clear the system cache
If the in-game cache step did not help, Pokémon UNITE Support lists this separate Switch system-cache route:
- From the HOME Menu, open Settings.
- Select System, then Formatting Options.
- Select Clear Cache, then choose the user.
Be careful to select Clear Cache, not a formatting option that deletes other device data. The steps are from Pokémon UNITE Support.

6. If you play on Android, clear the app cache
Pokémon UNITE Support lists this Android route: Settings > Applications > Pokémon Unite > Storage > Clear Cache. Android menu labels can vary by device and operating-system version; choose the cache-clearing option and avoid clearing app data unless official support directs you to do so. The cited support article does not provide an equivalent iOS device-cache menu.
7. Check device and account requirements
Mobile recommendations
Pokémon Support’s recommended mobile specifications page, updated February 26, 2026, lists the following. These are published recommendations, not a guarantee that every device meeting them will run the game successfully. Pokémon UNITE system requirements.

Nintendo Switch
The Switch version requires an internet connection and a linked Nintendo Account. A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required, according to Pokémon Support’s system specifications page.

Look for a current service notice before repeating the same troubleshooting steps. Pokémon Support’s Asia notice reported that, as of May 28, 2026, no new system or login issues significantly affecting gameplay or progression had been confirmed. That is a dated statement from the Asia site, not a real-time status check or a guarantee about service elsewhere or after that date. Pokémon UNITE Operational Status.

Availability also depends on region: Pokémon’s official notice says service ended in Belgium and the Netherlands on November 30, 2025, and the app would no longer be available to download there after that date. If the checks above do not resolve the issue, contact Pokémon Support or the relevant platform support team with your device, region, and the error or screen where startup stops.
