Yes. ARK: Survival Ascended supports cross-platform multiplayer between PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, provided you choose a server that allows the platforms you want to play together. It does not support crossplay with ARK: Survival Evolved, and playing together does not by itself mean your saves or progress transfer between accounts.
Which platforms can play together?
Studio Wildcard’s 2023 rollout announcements covered Steam and console crossplay, with Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation able to play together on crossplay-enabled servers. The rollout details changed: an earlier FAQ described Steam crossplay as a later phase, while the subsequent console-launch update said Steam crossplay would be enabled at the Xbox launch and PlayStation would crossplay with Steam and Xbox at its launch. That launch-era restriction should not be read as a current blanket rule.
Wildcard also announced cross-platform multiplayer for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Its announcements do not provide a current server-by-server compatibility matrix, so the server’s listing and rules are the practical check before joining.

Why server choice matters
Crossplay is not a guarantee that every server accepts every platform. Wildcard described crossplay servers as well as separate official servers restricted to Xbox and PlayStation. Before committing to a server, check its listing or rules for platform and network restrictions. If a friend cannot see or join the same server, verify that both players are searching for a server that supports both of their platforms.

Can Steam play with Xbox or PlayStation?
Yes, on a server that permits those platforms. Wildcard’s November 2023 console-launch update said Xbox would crossplay with Steam at the Xbox launch, and that PlayStation would crossplay with Steam and Xbox at its launch. An earlier FAQ had described Steam joining crossplay in a later phase, reflecting the staged rollout rather than a lasting incompatibility.
Does crossplay work between Survival Evolved and Survival Ascended?
No. Studio Wildcard said the games would coexist but would not support crossplay because functional changes in Survival Ascended make it incompatible with the older game. The shared ARK setting does not make them the same multiplayer version.

Does crossplay mean cross-progression?
No. Crossplay means players on different platforms can play together; it does not establish that a character, inventory, or save can move between platform accounts. Wildcard’s rollout FAQ treated progression as a separate feature requiring additional integration. Its cited announcements do not establish current transfer behavior, so do not assume that progress carries over when switching platforms.
