There was no confirmed plan to prepare players for Skirk with a Version 5.6 character. In April 2025, leak coverage placed Escoffier and Ifa in Version 5.6 and said Skirk and Dahlia were expected in Version 5.7. HoYoverse later confirmed Skirk and Dahlia for 5.7, but the timing does not prove a deliberate connection between their releases.
Was a new character preparing for Skirk’s release?
That was speculation, not an established development plan. The headline’s “may be preparing” framing reflected a possible interpretation of the release sequence: characters arriving in 5.6 would precede Skirk’s reported appearance in 5.7. Neither the contemporaneous leak report nor HoYoverse’s later announcement says Escoffier or Ifa was designed or released to prepare players for Skirk.
The evidence supports chronology, not causation. The fact that one update came before another does not establish that HoYoverse intended the earlier characters as a lead-in.
Which Genshin Impact characters were reported for 5.6?
A Destructoid report published April 16, 2025 identified Escoffier and Ifa as Version 5.6 characters. It treated those characters separately from its leak-based claims about Skirk and Dahlia appearing in 5.7. At the time, the latter timing was reported as leaked information, not an official confirmation. Destructoid’s April 16, 2025 report
Was Skirk supposed to release in 5.6?
The leak-era report discussed here pointed to Version 5.7, not 5.6. HoYoverse subsequently announced Version 5.7 for June 18, 2025 and confirmed Skirk and Dahlia as new playable characters. The official announcement described Skirk as a five-star Cryo character with two combat styles and noted her connection to Childe and Surtalogi. HoYoverse’s Version 5.7 announcement

How the reported timing matched the official schedule
HoYoverse’s Version 5.6 Phase II Event Wishes notice listed the event period as May 27 through June 17, 2025. That ended immediately before the announced June 18 start of Version 5.7. HoYoverse’s Version 5.6 Phase II Event Wishes notice
The sequence fits the broad timing reported in April: Escoffier and Ifa were associated with 5.6, while Skirk and Dahlia were reported for the following version. The official 5.7 announcement later confirmed Skirk and Dahlia’s version. That confirmation verifies the release window, not the claim that 5.6 characters were deliberately positioned to prepare for Skirk.

What the 2025 leak headline means now
This is a retrospective account of a 2025 leak-era claim, not a current prediction. The useful distinction is between what leak coverage said in April, what the official schedule later showed, and what remains unproven: a specific intention to link Escoffier or Ifa’s release to Skirk’s arrival.
