HoYoverse announced Mualani for the first phase of Version 5.0, “Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn.” The version launched on August 28, 2024, and Mualani’s debut Event Wish ran alongside Kachina’s debut and Kaedehara Kazuha’s rerun, according to HoYoverse’s Version 5.0 announcement. That is historical banner information, not confirmation of a current or future rerun; no current or upcoming Mualani banner date is established here.
How Mualani’s kit and combat loop work
Mualani is an on-field Hydro DPS whose defining attack is Sharky’s Bite. HoYoverse’s announcement summarizes the central interaction: “In combat, when Mualani is moving on her Sharky Surfboard and hits an enemy, she applies a mark and administers Sharky’s Bite, which inflicts more damage after several hits.” Detailed mechanic explanations below reflect the community guide from KeqingMains, updated for Version 5.8, rather than a developer statement.
Skill, contact, and Sharky’s Bite
- Use Mualani’s Elemental Skill to enter Nightsoul’s Blessing and ride the Sharky Surfboard.
- While surfing, make contact with opponents to build Wave Momentum as Nightsoul points are consumed.
- Trigger the transformed Normal Attack to deliver Sharky’s Bite, dealing Hydro damage based on Mualani’s Max HP. Building more momentum strengthens the bite.
An important talent detail: Sharky’s Bite is categorized as Normal Attack DMG, but its multiplier uses the Elemental Skill talent. Level the Skill for her signature bite damage; ordinary Normal Attack talent levels do not increase that damage. Her Burst is another source of damage and is generally the next talent investment after Skill.

Best Mualani build: artifacts and stats
Artifact sets
Four-piece Obsidian Codex is the consistent best-in-slot recommendation in both KeqingMains’ Version 5.8 guide and GameWith’s guide, last updated October 6, 2026. KeqingMains cites the set’s 15% damage bonus and 40% CRIT Rate buff with full uptime for Mualani. Four-piece Heart of Depth and useful two-piece combinations are alternatives or placeholders when a complete Codex set is not available.

Main stats and substats
A straightforward starting setup is HP% sands, Hydro DMG Bonus goblet, and a CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG circlet. KeqingMains also considers Elemental Mastery sands and, depending on weapon and substats, HP% goblets or circlets. Its general substat priority is CRIT, then HP%, then Elemental Mastery when building for Vaporize.
Do not choose a CRIT Rate circlet automatically. Mualani gains CRIT Rate through ascension, and Obsidian Codex adds a large CRIT Rate buff; a weapon or strong artifact substats can push the total beyond what is useful. Check the character’s actual stats with the intended weapon and set, then balance CRIT Rate against CRIT DMG and HP.

There is no single quantitative weapon ranking established for every account. Compare acquisition cost, useful HP or CRIT stats, passive reliability, and how each weapon fits your artifact substats. CRIT Rate weapons deserve particular scrutiny with Obsidian Codex to avoid overcapping.

Talent priority and investment
Prioritize character level and Elemental Skill, then Burst, following KeqingMains’ recommendations. The Skill controls Sharky’s Bite’s multiplier despite the bite being classified as Normal Attack DMG. This is why leveling ordinary Normal Attacks is not required for the defining part of her damage; GameWith’s talent table gives Normal Attacks some priority, but the mechanic-specific distinction is key when deciding where limited materials go.

Forward Vaporize is the strongest archetype identified by KeqingMains: Mualani applies Hydro while off-field Pyro application enables Vaporize on her attacks. The team must provide enough Pyro application during her on-field surfing window.
Forward Vaporize options
- Mavuika or Xiangling: KeqingMains names both as off-field Pyro options.
- Xilonen: A recommended support option in KeqingMains’ team guidance.
- Emilie, Xilonen, and Mavuika: A lineup featured by GameWith.
These are examples, not a mandatory roster. Choose supports you own that can maintain the needed Pyro aura and contribute during Mualani’s on-field window; team fit also depends on investment and available support characters.
