The fixes differ: Bandai Namco’s 2023 conversion procedure uses separate “(For Upgrade)” game data, while Xbox sync dialogs ask you to choose between local and cloud copies. The old conversion notice describes a historical issue, not a confirmed current outage.
First, identify which save problem you have
Match the message and situation before changing anything. A conversion failure concerns moving an Xbox One save to the Series X|S edition. A sync error is an Xbox platform problem that can involve local data, cloud data, connectivity, or service access.

Convert an Xbox One save to the Series X|S edition
Bandai Namco documented an upgrade issue for Xbox One edition players on Series X|S in January 2023. The publisher said Xbox One saves would not be affected or deleted; its February 2023 guide then described a conversion process. That notice is historical and does not establish that the issue is active today. The conversion process requires an internet connection and more than 50 GB of storage for the upgrade and conversion data, according to the guide. That is a stated process requirement, not a recommendation to buy an expansion drive.
- Connect and update. Connect the Xbox Series X|S console to the internet, then update the Series X|S edition of DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT to the latest version.
- Start the Series X|S edition with the right profile. Select the Xbox profile that has the original save. Follow the prompts to obtain the separate “(For Upgrade) DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT” game data from the Microsoft Store.
- Load the save in the upgrade data. Launch the “(For Upgrade)” data using that same profile, choose Continue, and load the save slot you want to transfer.
- Save over the same slot. After gameplay begins, open the main menu and choose Save in System. Save to the same slot and confirm the overwrite. Repeat this load-and-save process for every slot you want to transfer.
- Return to the Series X|S edition. Shut down the “(For Upgrade)” version, reopen the Series X|S edition under the same profile, and load the transferred save.
If the slot is an autosave
Bandai Namco’s guide says to load the autosave and trigger a new autosave by changing party members in Party or by obtaining and consuming an item in the field.

If the Series X|S edition still says the slot is not converted
Return to the “(For Upgrade)” data and complete the load-and-save steps for that specific slot. A slot that has not been resaved through the conversion process will not be ready to load in the Series X|S edition.
If you removed the upgrade data before transfer finished
Bandai Namco’s guide describes redownloading it through My Collection > Full Library > Owned Games. Store and console menus can change, so if the labels differ, look in your owned game library for the separate “(For Upgrade)” data.

Handle a general Xbox save-sync conflict carefully
Microsoft explains that sync dialogs can arise when a console is offline, Xbox services are inaccessible, another console has a data lock, local data is stale, or saved-game data is corrupted. If Xbox asks which copy to keep, the choice is consequential:
- “This console” keeps the local console copy and overwrites the cloud data.
- The Xbox network copy keeps the cloud copy and overwrites local storage.
Before selecting either option, consider which console or session contains your newest progress. Do not accept an overwrite if you are unsure which copy is current. For a temporary connection or service problem, Microsoft documents trying again or using offline mode; offline play may keep data local for that session without uploading it.

Other troubleshooting steps Bandai Namco suggests
Bandai Namco’s Xbox Series X|S FAQ search-result excerpt suggests the following general checks. These are troubleshooting suggestions, not independently verified fixes for every save or sync error:
- Restart the console.
- Reinstall the game data. This means reinstalling application data, not deleting saved data.
- Check whether another save behaves the same way. If only one slot fails conversion, repeat the official conversion steps for that slot.
- Try a wired network connection.
If those checks do not resolve the problem, contact Bandai Namco support. For an Xbox cloud-sync or service issue, use Xbox support.

Seven checks, matched to the symptom
- Write down the exact error instead of assuming every “failed to load” message has the same cause.
- Check whether the save was made on Xbox One and whether you are opening it in the Series X|S edition.
- Use the same Xbox profile that contains the original save for both the “(For Upgrade)” data and the Series X|S edition.
- Update the Series X|S edition and confirm the documented conversion process’s internet and storage requirements.
- If the Xbox One save needs conversion, complete the official load-and-resave procedure for each slot.
- If the problem appears to be a general game issue, try Bandai Namco’s suggested restart, application-data reinstall, another save, or wired connection checks.
- If Xbox shows a local/cloud choice, check which copy has the latest progress and understand which one will be overwritten before deciding.
