They offer a useful view of the creative process, but not a step-by-step technical breakdown of how one specific scene is modeled, lit, or implemented.
Start with a shared visual language
Art and World Director Benedikt Podlesnigg says the team revisited Star Wars films and shows, books and comics, games, and even model kits to understand the franchise’s visual identity. That research informed concepts, characters, props, and environments, while the team aimed to give the presentation a modern, distinct feel. Ubisoft’s Art Blast published October 2, 2024, records his account.

The goal was recognition without requiring prior knowledge. Longtime fans could discover familiar details, while newcomers could make sense of the world through Kay Vess and Nix. That balance points to homage and accessibility—not a rule that every scene must recreate a particular film shot.
Let the story shape what a scene needs to do
Star Wars Outlaws is set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, according to the official game FAQ. Narrative Director Navid Khavari describes the central ambition as letting players live a scoundrel fantasy: moving through bustling locations, riding a speeder, and traveling in space. The game combines familiar places such as Tatooine and Kijimi with the new moon Toshara and its underworld city, Mirogana.

That premise gives scenes a narrative and gameplay context. They are part of a wider journey through locations and activities, rather than isolated illustrations of Star Wars scenery. Khavari says Ubisoft Toronto used recurring “story rooms,” bringing writers and narrative designers together with quest designers and artists to align quests, dialogue, cinematics, and character biographies. Coordinate the work across teams
A scene can depend on contributions from several disciplines, and production coordination helps those contributions meet their dependencies. Ubisoft Toronto Production Manager Keegan Hawkeswood says he coordinated narrative tasks with voice designers, quest and level designers, and cinematic teams. His June 20, 2024 interview describes that coordination; it does not establish that Ubisoft Toronto alone created all scenes or assets.

Massive Entertainment is identified as the game’s developer in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. Technical Director Tobias Carlsson describes worldbuilding as part of Massive’s DNA in Ubisoft’s April 16, 2024 article about its NVIDIA collaboration. Taken together, the accounts show distinct but connected contributions: visual direction and worldbuilding, narrative alignment, and production coordination.

The interviews and features explain creative intent, reference research, story development, and cross-team coordination. They do not lay out the complete technical workflow for an individual scene: the sources do not specify its modeling, layout, lighting, asset integration, or engine implementation. Nor do they give a reliable count of the artists, references, work hours, or scenes involved.
